I guess it doesn't really matter which tense it is, maybe it's a case where the conditional is used to indicate desire or preference rather than to indicate a consequence of a postulated prior event. Anyway, I'll translate it as if it were future because French is rather strict about things like that.
More of a translation problem is the last line of teh second stanza; the singer clearly has "sale", matching the lyrics, so the interesting question is what is the subject of that verb. I believe it is that amor, the lo of the third line, which is a fairly spectacular bit of poetic simile/metaphor/transference which I wouldn't use in French so instead I;ll treat the verb as plural because at the end of the day that's what the writer was describing - they can't leave their relationship behind when the go out together in public, so it goes out with them, and as they can't hide it they try to disguise it, and "it goes out to walk through the town" simply means "it is displayed in public", and the best way to handle that in French isn't to translate it to those words, I think, but to try to retain at leasy part of the metaphor/whatever and just turn the vernb into plural and make the two girls the subject. But I expect some people will disagree with that, though.
That's another possibility that can't be ruled out, I think.
I decided to have a look at other translations that had José María Cano's (the author's) approval and were in a language I could understand as well as or better than I can understand Spanish. The only one I could find was the one done by Pierre Grosz for Cano's group Mecano to use for their French version. What he wrote for the two lines
Lo disfrazan de amistad
Cuando sale a pasear por la ciudad
was
Alors sous les yeux des autres
Dans la rue elles le déguisent en amitié
which doesn't really help because we already knew it meant that, just not how to get an more nearly literal accurate translation.
I'll post Grosz's translation as a second French one.
