Maria del Mar Bonet - Blancaflor (İngilizce translation)
Al mirador del castell,
Blancaflor hi està asseguda
i ,amb una pinteta d'or,
sons cabells pentina i nua...
Gira els ulls devers el cel;
no hi veu estrella qualcuna.
Els gira devers la mar,
i veu traspuntar la lluna!
Les veles veu arribar
d'una nau qui n'és vinguda;
Mira ara envers el camí
i veu molta gent que hi puja.
Veu venir un cavaller
qui va a cavall d'una mula;
sella i brida ne són d'or
i també les ferredures!
Un gran acompanyament
el senyor darrere duia
i, de tant lluny com la veu,
el cavaller la saluda!
-«Cavaller, bon cavaller,
si veniu de part de França
haureu vist el meu senyor,
que Déu guardi de desgràcia!»
-«L'he vist i l'he conegut
i amb ell tinc grossa amistança.
Som dinats, ans de venir,
moltes voltes a sa taula!
Ara ja deu ser casat:
el Rei li donà una infanta.»
-«Benhaja ell qui la manté!
Malhaja qui la hi ha dada!
Fa set anys que jo l'esper,
com a dona ben casada.
Set d'altres l'esperaré
com una vidueta honrada!
Si dins aquest temps no ve,
seré monja consagrada...
Me'n tancaré, al convent;
el convent de Santa Clara.»
-«Senyora, jo fos de vós,
no en voldria ser, tancada.
Pot venir vostre marit
a l'hora més impensada...
Què en faríeu, dama, vós,
si davant el vésseu ara?»
-«Faria els rosers florir
i les poncelles badar-se!»
-«Senyora, idò, ja poreu,
que davant el teniu ara!»
Es van dar tant fort abraç
que de joia ambdós ploraven!
Es giren ençà i enllà;
els rosers aponcellaven!
In the castle's highest balcony
White-Blossom watches as she sits
And, with a little gold comb,
She arranges and untangles her hair...
She turns her eyes towards the sky;
She cannot see a single star.
She turns them towards the sea,
And she sees how the moon rises!
She can see the sails arrive
Of a ship that has come into port;
She looks at the road
And can see that many people are coming up.
She sees a knight approach
Who is riding on a mule;
Both the saddle and the reins are made of gold,
As well as the mule's horseshoes!
There was a very large train
Coming behind that great lord
And, since he could see her from afar,
The knight greets her gladly!
-«Oh knight, my good knight,
If you happen to come from France
You must have surely seen my lord,
May God keep him from any harm!»
-«I have seen him and I know him
And I have a great friendship with him.
We've had dinner, long before I came,
Many times sat at his table!
He must be married by now:
The King gave one of the princesses to him».
-«Blessed be he, who has her love!
Cursed be he who gave her hand to him!
I've been waiting for him for seven years,
As a dutiful wife.
I shall wait for him for seven more
Like a virtuous little widow!
If, at the end of this time, he doesn't come
I shall be a consecrated nun...
I will lock myself in a convent;
The convent of Saint Claire.».
-«My lady, if I were in your place,
I wouldn't want to be a cloistered nun.
Think that your husband could come back
At the least expected of times...
What would you do now, my lady,
If you had him standing before you?».
-«I would make the rose trees bloom
And the rosebuds open at once!»
-«Well then, my lady, you can start
For you have him right here!»
They embraced each other with such passion
That they started to cry out of happiness!
They turned to watch all around:
The rosebushes were all blossoming!
