Hi everyone,
I'd like to ask for an English translation of this Italian song :T' amo e t' amero
Of course there are currently two English translations but they they don't agree more significantly in the first ten lines. Can anyone please provide a new or confirm the more accurate translation?

Se tu dopo aver amato invano,
non vuoi più amar nessuno
perché
dimentichi anche me.
Se tu non vuoi più amar nessuno,
vieni a stringere
la mano
che ti legava un giorno a me.
Le lacrime che ho versato per te
sono lacrime d'amore per me.

Thank you for your effort ang. Perhaps you can help me clean up the grammar and explain the meanings to me a bit.
Se tu dopo aver amato invano,
non vuoi più amar nessuno
If you after having loved in vain
don't want to love anyone anymore

perché
dimentichi anche me.
why you forget me , too. (Is he asking "why do you also forget me?" as in I am special and should not be forgotten or is it saying "go ahead, you better forget me too!" )

Se tu non vuoi più amar nessuno,
vieni a stringere
la mano
che ti legava un giorno a me.
if you don't love anyone anymore,
(you) come to shake the hand
that one day bonded you to me (what does this mean? The hand that bonded you to me. Is there a less literal translation for this? Is this a popular expression in Italian?)

Le lacrime che ho versato per te
sono lacrime d'amore per me.
the tears that I've cried/shed for you
are tears of my love (Now I noticed some people have translated this as tears of self-love , I guess because of the "per me" but that doesn't sound right. Your translation sounds much better, but is there a grammatical reason for others having translated it as "self-love" ?

Thanks,
Behrooz

Hi Behrooz

1)
yes , it's right as " I am special / I'm someone who you can count on / and should not be forgotten

2) (you) come to shake the hand
that one day bonded you to me (what does this mean? The hand that bonded you to me. Is there a less literal translation for this? Is this a popular expression in Italian?)

*I made a literal traslation but in other words it means (to me) : she can trust him / in the relation or friendship that one day bonded them

3) (Now I noticed some people have translated this as tears of self-love , I guess because of the "per me" but that doesn't sound right. Your translation sounds much better, but is there a grammatical reason for others having translated it as "self-love" ?

* Litterally " I've shed/cried tears of love for me " in the sense of he have cried tears for her "that means (to him) tears of love )

i hope this has helped you at least a little bit :) -
