Using the green "Add collection item" button in collection edit mode. Or did you mean something else?

Thank you, Ivan.
What I want is to add some songs to a certain collection.
I never find those famous buttons.

Well you don't seem to have created any collection yourself thus far.

And currently we normally don't edit other users' collections.
It actually was suggested to make it possible to allow that to specific users 4 comments above.

Props to the admin for implementing this feature. My suggestions to improve the feature:

  • Allow user to suggest an entry to a collection through some sort of system instead of users commenting on the collection.
  • Allow creators of users to allow or disallow suggestions
  • Sub-headers for the collection for better organization
  • Allow users to place custom images for songs without videos - It would be more aesthetically pleasing if there are no entries with no visual representation in a collection.
  • The collections themselves could be categorized (Some collections deals with songs used in a certain event/television show, some on the theme/subject of the songs themselves, some are grouped based on song titles, and some are personal collections)

I have also thought about different categories, it might make browsing the collections easier. Like hariboneagle927 said, one category could be for song competitions/TV shows about singing etc., one for personal collections... Soundtracks could also be one category - or just a category for music used in different TV shows/movies.

What do you think about awards for suggestions in comments? it seems to me that good suggestions demonstrate person's open-mindedness and competence in music and need to be encouraged.

I normally just give them a like and say thanks.

Otherwise, also the one who started the collection would need to be rewarded for what they add to their collection on their own.

Yes, creator of the collection can also be awarded for each input, why not. But then there is a problem of measuring whether or not are songs correspondent to the declared topic. And description is needed to be very clear. I'm just suggesting such features, and reflecting on it.

Frankly speaking, the idea and purpose of creating collections isn't quite clear for me. On one hand, collection can be "interesting experience" for its creator, then he operates it solely on his own, describes as he wants, adds or not the songs, suggested by others, and if not, they don't get dissapointed. But on the other hand, collection can be a navigation tip, used to improve differentiation of the songs by some criterions. Then it has global, omni-classifying nature, must be very accurate, and needs some sort of regulation. It appears to me that at this moment collections is more like first scenario. But I want to ask creators of this feature itself - what was your original idea? just want to understand.

absolutely agree about "art for art's sake". just thinking about accuracy, which depends on the purpose of collections. if they are global, so to say, tip - there is higher responsibility for the content, you know. if they are just private initiative - no need, of course.

Collections are a quite new feature, and their purpose has never been officially stated. I would suppose they simply are what users make of them.
@lt Perhaps you want to give some input on this, admins?

Since collections currently can only be edited by their creator, they are often of a personal nature.
However, they are also useful for making global, objective collections, and quite many of those collections have already been created.

collections are a very useful feature, and can help to keep track of songs, performers, genres or folders of a similar kind, that are otherwise hard to keep track of. they can also be used to make personal collections. they further can be used as a "radio" due to the flash player function on bottom of screen.

I agree, most collections should be just what users make of them.

But with some, they would be very handy for being officially used for content that was previously grouped together by special artist pages.
And for those, some more centralized form of quality control would be of advantage.

You mean things like nursery rhymes or folk songs, for instance?

Exactly.

Quote:

That sure would free up the artist's name when the actual authors are known, but that doesn't seem like a trivial thing to implement.
But maybe you already have a more precise idea of how it could be done?

I know that some users have started making such collections. They could be given into the hand of the staff, and editing rights could be given to users who seem fit for the job and want to take care of it, or a suggestion feature for collections could be added that doesn't work via comments.

A lightweight way of doing things. I rather like that.

The only problem I see would be for new songs. You'd need a simple way of knowing in which collection to put them, i.e. provide the user adding the song with a means of letting the collection manager know about it.

We could make a collection of those official collections ;)

Quote:

A dedicated way of suggesting additions would certainly be a nice feature. The person doing the suggestion could fill in all necessary informations (link and optional comments) and the collection owner would just have to validate it (possibly adding or modifying comments).
That would solve the current "comments clutter" problem, and limit the extra amount of work for users adding new songs that belong in a collection to a minimum.

In that context it was brought up before.
Personally, I don't see that much issue with the many comments, but if one really just wants to give an obvious suggestion, an automatized way would make it a tad more simple for both sides.

I find it also very useful to have categories that precisely defined will help to chose quickly a song speaking of a particular theme.
If i come to this website which has more than 1000 songs, do i have hope to find a song (i mean the right one that explains my situation) speaking of "a cat with whom i broke, and i feel sad now?"
With collections officially used, and updated by suggestions having to be checked by someone in charge of it
i go to the right collections, and look in a restrained field of songs, that have already been pre-selected, according to a human factor, which can understand the real meaning of the song, which helps categorize better than just a search engine, and if possible with description
That would greatly help in a short time the user to chose a song in thousands.

You should be able to easily add a collection but typing the collection title in the Item box. You might have problems with songs/ artists/ collections that have the same name (imagine how many songs titled "Shine" are on the database, it's gets tricky if you don't have any other word in the title), so just copy-paste the URL on the Item box and the wanted result should be shown without any problem.

Still, publishing a draft, at least for me as a mod, never actually creates an entry, it merely marks an already existing entry as published. No idea how that could ever cause a duplicate.

What I think he did is what I did when I had the same problem: first he published it and he got the fake error, then tried a second time and got a second fake error. At last he probably thought "can't be bothered, gonna publish this afterwards" and tried to save it as draft, problem was that he got another error. Thing is, the feature is very recent and you've got problems for multiple reasons, sometimes it seems to be fixed, then it comes back, then it's all fine and I lose track of what's happening.

Some of them I tried to save as a draft, it ended in error. So I then tried to save them and publish - the same error. But they are still accessible from my account. I think there could be 'suggested' items displayed at the very bottom of a collection list as smaller icons so that users could see them (and also like by pressing the attached button). These 'suggested' items could be 'approved' or 'denied' by the collection's author and also, in case of no decision, could be added to collections on an automated basis (i.e. after getting more than 5 likes or waiting for more than 2 months). Collections could also be divided into 2 (or even more) groups: 1. "Personal" collections (where there's impossible to suggest new items, except by means of leaving comments) 2. "Open" collections that would imply the above said. User then should be given a button that would "open/close" their collections for "suggestions".

Hi LT contributors,

I know collection is considered a personnal order to put things on.

But i noticed a collection was twice created, (exactly the same) of course, one can do it, but then, I guess if anyone should do that three times, or maybe more, hundred do that a hundred times, for each collection, this is going to be rapidly insane to look for any song, and we would precisely lose the point of having collections,
if the point is to ease users to find some types of song.
(> in the common interest point of view, on a personnal level, everybody having its own private collection, this is ok of course)

I guess one should have some kind of rules, to avoid a collections' jungle, but this also means to list collections for a common interest purpose.

Thx
