Teşekkür Detayları:
The Russian root word for the title of this song means "godparent" -- masculine: kum; feminine: kuma -- and is used by the parents who have invited a man and woman, usually not related to each other and maybe unacquainted with each other, to be godparents to their child. The term is also used between the godparents themselves in addressing each other, which is what's happening in these lyrics. In such direct address, it means "fellow godparent," but since it has both masculine and feminine forms, it isn't easy to translate in direct address ("fellow godparent" is awkward-sounding; "godfather to my godchild" is a bit much!).
Some listeners might find it useful to compare this relationship to the one between a best man and a maid of honor at a wedding, who may meet for the first time at their respective friends' wedding, and eventually develop a real relationship.
Hope this useful to fans of Zhanna's music; please mention "translation by Lloyd Bishop, 2016"; THANK YOU!
