La lágrima infinita

¡Esa!... La que en el alma llevo oculta;

dolor que se concreta y se resume;
planta parásita como la hiedra
que trepa al corazón y lo consume;
infinito dolor sin esperanza
de resolverse en líquido siquiera.
Invierno seco y duro que no alcanza
a trasformarse luego en primavera.
Nieve perpetua sin ningún deshielo;
polo desierto que en la ardiente entraña
anhela el húmedo calor del cielo,
que ni fertiliza ni lo baña.

Lágrima que no alivia la tortura
de los ojos cansados de infinito;
lágrima que no cura la amargura;
que no es queja, ni expresión, ni grito.
Cántaros secos, áridos, mis ojos;
páramos sin frescura ni rocío;
febricitantes de escrutar los rojos
límites, del espacio y del vacío...

¡Esa!... La que no llega, ni ha llegado,
ni llegará a los ojos nunca... ¡nunca!...
Mi lágrima tenaz que no ha mojado
el Sahara estéril de mi vida trunca,
¡Ésa... no la verás, porque en la calma
de mis angustias, se ha trocado en perla!
Para verla hace falta tener alma;
y tú, ¡no tienes alma para verla!...

The Infinite Tear

That one!... The one that I carry hidden in my soul;
the one that doesn't surge out if it expands
in the pupil; that insults no one
in a display of pain; the large one,
the infinite, the mute, the somber one,
the obstinate one, the treacherous, the mourning
tear of pain, my tear,
that is nailed deep, inside of me!

The one that gives neither the truce nor the comfort
of a sweet sob: The one that hurts me,
and doesn't pierce, and doesn't obsess, but puts a cloudy
veil in my eyes; the one that neither dies
nor blooms on my countenance; that never
restrains its beating; that doesn't attempt to
appear on my visage but remains truncated,
and makes the pain endless and prolonged...

Water from a spring that flows in the shadows
Tortuous of my being, cursed land
where no plant sprouts; nor is mentioned
any name of Love... That infinite
tear of pain, deaf and bitter
that reaches my eyes but doesn't flow
in a burning waterfall1; The one that overcomes
my being and in the silence is diluted!...
Drop that crystallizes and becomes stone,
pain that materializes and boils down;
a parasitic plant like ivy
that traps the heart and consumes it;
infinite pain without hope
of at least dissolving into a liquid.
Arid and harsh winter that never manages
to transform itself into spring.
Perpetual snow that never thaws;
deserted pole that in the burning gut
yearns for the humid heat of heaven,
that neither fertilizes nor washes it off.

Tear that doesn't relieve the torture
of the eyes drained by the infinite;
tear that doesn't heal the bitterness;
that is neither complaint, nor expression, nor scream
Dry pitchers -- arid -- my eyes;
wastelands without freshness or dew;
feverish from scrutinizing the red
limits, of space and of emptiness...

That one!... That doesn't come, neither has
nor will ever come come to my eyes...: never!...
My tenacious tear that hasn't moistened
the sterile Sahara of my truncated life,
That one... you will not see it, because in the calm
of my anguish, it has become a pearl!
To see it, it is necessary to have a soul;
and you, you have no soul to see it!...

1. I see that sometimes you say "the one" and other times you don't. Does it make any difference?
In the third verse, if you say, only, "that", you shouldn't put semi colon after "pupil" because it is a continuation. (This repeats further down).
2. Second stanza, fourth to fifth verse, isn't it "never dies NOR blooms"?
At the end I would say, "and makes the pain slow and endless... (I think it "ends" better).
3. In the long stanza, 12th versr, you can say "trap" but, actually, "trepar" means "to climb/creep".
4. Last stanza - "...that doesn't COME".
I think the last line should have the same punctuation as the original.

That's all I see.

Great proficiency in vocabulary!

The reason that sometimes I say "the one" and sometimes I do not, is that I want to convey the meaning of the Spanish while making the poem sound as if it were originally written in English. Perhaps, I haven't managed that yet and have more editing to do.

Thank you, my friend, for catching my errors and your suggestions. :) You are an excellent proofreader.

How many times have I told you, "you are welcome"?
Thank you for your compliments.

Thank you Jami (is this pronounced Jamie?), my suggestions:
la traidora > the treacherous
se nombra > is named after
ni lo baña > washes it off/away
de infinito > by the infinite
ni ha llegado ni llegará nunca > neither has nor will ever come

My friend, you are too kind and helpful :)
And yes, everyone calls me "Jamie". Only my mom calls me, using Spanish phonetics: Yamile. Only God know where she got that name.
