the Lilacs

When I go to the florist
I only buy lilacs ...
If my sad song singing
It is that love is gone.

As I was, somehow,
Love those flowers,
I walked through the door,
By the Porte des Lilas.

Lilacs, there was little,
Lilacs, there were none,
Z'étaient all war dead,
Passed from life to death.

I came across a beautiful
Which flourished a little there,
I wanted to impress upon it
My love for lilacs.

I scored a white cross
The day we flew,
Clinging to a branch,
A sprig of lilac.

Poor love, hold the bar,
The time will go through it,
And time is a barbarian
In the kind of Attila.

Hearts to where his horse passes,
Love does not grow back,
Across space
He made the desert under his feet.
So, our loves are dead,
Wings in the afterlife,
Leaving the key under the door,
Under the Porte des Lilas.

Warbler Sunday
One that gave me the A,
Was perched on other branches,
Other branches of lilac.

When I go to the florist,
I only buy lilacs ...
If my sad song singing
It is that love is gone.

Not exactly, but in some affairs,I give help from google translator

Nope, not only does it show clear signs of a machine translation (untranslated segments, incoherent sentences across line breaks) it's actually word for word exactly the same as the translation google gives.

That's not to knock google translate - it's a wonderful tool for quickly looking up isolated words and for giving suggestions on phrases, which it creates using very sophisticated concordance software. However, trying to translate a whole chunk of text doesn't work because it can't possibly pick up on certain nuances that will be quite obvious to a human. And even for all its improvements over the last few years, it still makes mistake and you can't take anything it says to be 100% accurate.

There are too many errors to list them all, but they include utterly meaningless nonsense for quite simple phrases (eg "my sad song singing" in place of "my song sounds sad"), wild mistranslations of individual words (eg "wings" for "vanished"),
words left out so as to lose all meaning (eg "d'" in "d'une croix"), and many other bizarre failures to parse correctly that smack of machine translation at its worst.

The author of this translation hasn't been active for 2 and a half years, so (it's likely) she won't see this vote and edit her translation.

So, if you're willing to do that, you may add a translation of your own.

I'm hoping that jaimepapier will revise his translation; he has started out with something much better than the one from the person who has been inactive, and he has been active in the last couple of weeks, so I made careful and detailed comments on his translation because although it's good and certainly deserves respect he has missed the meaning of the original several times. Given his good start it seems sensible to try to help him improve his translation rather than do one of my own.

I'm back! Thanks for your comments – I'll take a look now.
