Перекресток (Perekrestok)

If you're saying "Vlad, where have you been? You haven't posted a translation in a few several days!" this is why. These lyrics were a pain to get, I had to sell my soul to Satan and then listen to the song and get the lyrics that way. So yeah, should be good

Crossroads

You left early this morning, a lil’ after six
You left early this morning, to somewhere a lil’ after six
Dressed quietly, watching the clock
Scribbling “I’m sorry” on a pack of L&Ms 1

A few strands of hair lay on the pillow
A few strands of blond hair lay on the pillow
And almost mechanically, what you said, bassist
I begin to wrap the hair around my finger, wondering whose name is last in the alphabet

Whose life is a boogie-woogie, and whose life is complete nonsense
Whose life is a boogie-woogie, well, at least my life is nonsense
Half-drunk beer, empty mosquitoes
Overlooking sleep, didn't see the hit

I was looking for you here and there, and I thought I was going crazy
I was looking for you here and there, and I thought I was going crazy
Oh guitar and strings, the holy alliance
When love throws down, the blues begins
When love throws down, the blues begins
When love throws down, the blues stays

To me, music is a form of speech, and just like speech, music should be heard to all regardless of barriers in place. So by translating you're letting other people open up to a world that is alien to them, a world where many who listen to the Russian, German and French music I listen to, is not strange or weird because they do not understand what the singer is singing. By having translations music can share cultural and political ideas, or really just ideas, around without barrier, and allow for discussion over meaning and purpose instead of trivial pursuit.

Vlad's alive, I think. Before I take the 1-hour drive to my only Tuesday college class, I'll translate this. After doing my CCNA studies before class and if I have time, I'll do "On a Pair of Wings" and, if I feel like it, "Leisure Boogie". This song is nice, feel free to discuss it or leave suggestions for improvements below. Where I've been? Though you probs don't care. I bought some new Ushanka cockades over the weekend for the Ushanka I wear, was forced to help my parents with yard work. Procrastinated because college was out Monday for new student registration and was really just slacking off because a scrawny nerd like myself shouldn't be hauling 6 foot boards around, they're longer than I'm tall! TL:DR I was being lazy and dealing with parents and college burnout and just haven't had the motivation to do diddly squat.

I itch the trigger finger, just wanna know the name that turned “X”

LOL, sounds like she cut the strand of her hair and left on his pillow. And why in the world would he itch his trigger finger to know her name? Teeth smile

In fact, there were only a few hair left on his pillow. And then he starts wraping her (single) hair around his finger and recites an alphabet with each loop A-B-C...X, really long hair Regular smile It’s a Russian ‘fortune telling’ game with the string, thread or hair - your future honey’s name will start with the letter you pronounced the last Regular smile

I'm going by my own personal rules of translation, and this was in the "Don't Park Cars Album" an album by Makarevich. Three or four of the songs from "Don't Park Cars" are cover songs. I will add this translation to Chizh and Co HOWEVER I personally feel that this still belongs here as a Makrevich song as it was in the "Don't Park Cars" album, Chizh and Co do not have a version available on any music service that I can find (I've spent the better part of a morning on iTunes searching). Now, this doesn't mean they didn't do the song, iTunes doesn't have Makrevich's "Моя Страна Сошла С Ума" on it, even though it was a song he did and is on this website as a translation. However, I'm leaving my translation here but will copy my translation over for Chizh and Co's version.

So, according to your logic, if Putin was singing "Povorot" (and he did), lyrics belong to him and not Makarevich?

Vladimir4757Vladimir4757    الخميس, 21/03/2019 - 20:35

That isn’t remotely what I was saying nor close to what I meant. Makeravich covered this song in an album therefore the translated lyrics can be for be for both Makarevich and Chizh. I didn’t say they belong to Makarevich at all.

Oh, boy. You already created TWO pages for this cover version. Please, stop.
