Lol, don't get confused "over the hill" isn't used idiomatically in this context

Well, "He wasn't at his sights till the queen will drink" is much more confusing for it makes no sense. It should be "He whistled and he sang till the green woods rang" like in the other song. BTW, "She left her father, Gotham King" should be "She left her father's castle gate", but that's not so critical.
Thank you! I was pulling my hair wondering who would get drunk sooner - the queen or I ;(
I thought we agreed that lyrics must match what is sung, Brat?
I also prefer the words in the other version, that i cited...but that's not what he sings. And the other version is sooo boring.
Surprised, unlike MZ, you didn't discuss Queen being a daughter.
M, pulling hair? Are you channeling young Maria?
Only if “channeling” is misspelled “Chanel”, тогда, мне номерок дайте, а если нет - то зачем пургу пуржить?
Lol, Coco all the way.
Я отчётливо слышу «трумп», not “wood”. :D
Я не решусь сказать я "отчетливо" что-то слышу... Omg, I heard Gotham King... Checked again other version, saw castle gate, still heard wrong. Darn, this state of existence. thanks, everyone!
[@Sarah Rose] could you please lend your ear to see if transcription is accurate? Thanks in advance
Sure, here are my changes:
A gypsy rover came over the hill --> I feel like he's saying "That gypsy rover" here, but it doesn't change the meaning.
Bounced through the valley so shady --> Down through the valley so shady
He wasn't at his sights till the queen will drink --> He whistled and he sang to the queen (well trained)? I can't tell what he's saying in the last part, it doesn't make sense and I can't think of what would fit. It doesn't make sense that the queen is the daughter because a queen would be married to a king already. Then again, it does say she already had a lover. I'm thinking the last part is a different word that I just can't identify.
She left her father, Gotham King --> She left her father's castle gate
She left her servants and the estate --> She left her servants and estate
Hey, she's gone with the whispering gypsy rover --> Hey, she's gone with the/a? *whistling* gypsy rover
Gone through the woods where gypsies walked --> Gone to the woods where the gypsies roam
Her father summoned up his fastest steed --> Her father saddled up his fastest steed
This makes perfect sense, but, I guess LT queen defined it as a substance related :D
Надя, я прошу прощения, но что значит
till the queen would trank
?
Если не ошибка, то to trank (сокращение от tranquilizer) = to relax
I knew it, alcohol and drugs... Again... Joking, of course
У них в то время ЭТО тоже было?
Свистим дальше
Иначе - досвистимся
Lol. I think, we will interprete it as he sang until she was completely taken by him.
This is a much livelier version than the original, don't you agree?
Let's look at what we've got in the end:
There was a king (supposedly living in Gotham and since that being very wise) who in his infinite wisdom married his own daughter and thus made her a queen. The wife/daughter/queen took this mishap very much to heart though she had another lover, besides, lost her marbles abit and began to seek for some substances to trank down her pangs. Then a gypsy bounced over the hill, whistling so loud that timber began ringing, and took her with him to the thick woods where shrooms blossom. The king flung himself onto the best steed to chase after the runaways but alas -- they're already far away from the goose feather bed sleeping on the wet cold ground.
A nice song, indeed. :D
Haha! It made more sense when woods rang instead of Queen tranked, but alas, we were spared the logic. So, I choose that gypsy indeed stole the queen, but she wasn't married - only had father who with great speed, and all on his own, went to search for her. Else, incest, adultery, probably murder - your favorite - opus time!,
That's a weird song. You hear exactly what you think you'll hear. Now that I want to hear "Till the green woods rang" I hear it. If I want to hear Gotham Gate, I hear that. Deanna, maybe you should go to that classical version. It's simpler. It's up to you. :)
