Hello

As I've understood Lyricstranslate has this policy:
All translations are protected by copyright law. Copying and publishing on other websites or in other media, even with the source link, is not allowed without the written permission of the author.

So, in the last few days, I've discovered that there is this Youtube channel Kolya Volkov that aims to "upload scenes, songs and multilanguages from Disney movies" and that it has stealthily borrowed my sucky translation and even the transcription for Lion King's "Circle of Life". It pisses me off that I knew nothing of it and I contacted him (I think my text sounded pissed too) like an hour ago. We'll see how he will react.

What I am interested in is whether the same has happened to you too or am I a rare case?
His favourites seem to be:
"Aladdin" +,
"Bambi",
"Beauty and the Beast",
"Brother Bear",
"Chicken Little",
"Coco",
"The Lion King" +,
"Pocahontas",
"The Prince of Egypt",
"The Princess and the Frog",
"Robin Hood",
"Vaiana/Moana"

Here is a link to his video list: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvvUz0EYwnCuuukvlGhcV9A/videos

I've had one or two translations of mine being used by other sites, too! (Or at least that's what I feel) I'm well aware of how much it hurts. But I'd bet you're not the only case. YouTubers and other translation sites might take a translator's work, make modifications here and there, and upload it as their own. Sometimes it might be difficult to know if it was an their own work or they just stole it from you.

It happened to me for a few translations of songs of Frozen 2. I told the YouTuber in the comments of one of them to give me credit (as stated in the signature of all my translations, anyone can use them as long as they give credit).
They acknowledged the translation was copied, but didn't do anything about it. I was unmistakably sure it was not their own work, because there were some lines that I didn't translate literally, and there's no way they got them all identical.
I later edited that translation, improving a few expressions; now the YouTuber is stuck with the bad one.

Yeah, I really feel that, in the end, the joke is on them as they are stuck with a bad translation.

Yeah, it hurts, or in my case, pisses me off (that some people are stupid enough to copy a visibly half-baked transcription or translation). I don't really want credit. I'd like a referral to the original link and mistakes to be corrected. It's more like I am angry than sad.

My question was actually more about if the Kolya in question has been unethical against anyone else. This Kolya has a "disclaimer" 'à la "I own nothing" in the description.
Maybe, if there are others, we could do something together.
The subs are hardsubs.

Right now, this guy has started following me on Youtube (why?) and has not deleted my comment (nice!) yet.

I have only posted English translations of Russian songs on this website, but someone stole one of my translations outright and posted it as their own. I was new and the moderators thought I was the guilty party, I was stunned , I reasoned with them back and forth and finally they realized I was by no means in the wrong. The translator's native tongue was Greek and Serbian and they were not even remotely close to being fluent in English, they had only studied it. I told them flat out, I am a very good writer of English, it's my native language, and I am very well read, there was no way that person was capable of doing a translation at the level of English I use. I even offered to photocopy my hand written notes and send them . Anyway that person is now banned from this website. I feel bad for you, because I know first hand what you feel like, I can tell you with all assurance, if you really study the criminal who stole your translations you will be able to prove their theft , criminals are guilty and stupid, they always make mistakes, plus they're arrogant and run their mouths and want people to notice them. They are lazy cowards, they are too afraid to use the dillagence and labor necessary to translate something well. Find out their native tongue, if they are not a native speaker of the language you are translating into, they will not have the command of the language you possess, not by a long shot, especially if you are well read in noted authors from your country. I think you are a very good translator, just from reading your profile, you work hard at translating and you try your level best to get inside of the lyrics to find out their meaning, that is by no means easy it takes hours even days to do a really good job. Also check the dates and the times when you did the translations, if they stole your translation it will be posted at a later date, if they tried to change some of the content so it wouldn't be a word for word theft, check the verb tense and the case, antecedents to pronouns etc...etc... they are not fluent, you will find internal mistakes and once you do contact the website owners, there are copyright laws, money is involved, criminals always get scared, it won't be the first time they have done it either, and you're not the only person they have done this to, they will get caught , have no doubt....plus the website owners don't want criminals operating under their radars, it's bad business , their reputations are at stake, you know your translations , they're like your children, get firm with the website personnel, you have nothing to hide, it's not like you're getting paid to translate, you are helping people understand the language of the musicians and artists who write these songs. The producers and directors of these movies should be thankful for the work you have done, you are helping them to reach foreign audiences, and they're living large on your dime. Again I am sad for what happened to you, and all the best to you and yours.
