The lovers on public benches

The people who look sideways
think that the green benches
that one sees on the pavements
are made for the disabled or the overweight.
But that’s absurd,
because, to tell the truth,
they are there, it’s widely known,
to make welcome, for some time, couples beginning their love.

Lovers who snog on the public benches,
public benches, public benches,
not giving a toss about the censuring glances
of decent passers-by,
Lovers who snog on public benches,
public benches, public benches,
saying moving "I love you"s to each other,
have nice friendly little faces!

They hold each other‘s hands,
talk about tomorrow,
about the sky blue paper
that the walls of their bedroom will acquire…
They see each other already, happily,
she sewing, he smoking,
with a decided well-being,
and choose christian names for their first baby.

Lovers who snog on the public benches,
public benches, public benches,
not giving a toss about the censuring glances
of decent passers-by,
Lovers who snog on public benches,
public benches, public benches,
saying moving "I love you"s to each other,
have nice friendly little faces!

When the holy family Wotsisname
on their way goes past
two of these misbehaving people,
it bravely attacks them with venemous insults…
But that doesn’t mean that all the family
(the father, the mother, the son, the "Holy Spirit...")
wouldn’t really like, now and again,
to be able to do the same as them.

Lovers who snog on the public benches,
public benches, public benches,
not giving a toss about the censuring glances
of decent passers-by,
Lovers who snog on public benches,
public benches, public benches,
saying moving "I love you"s to each other,
have nice friendly little faces!

When the months have gone by,
when their fine ardent dreams
have cooled down,
when the sky is covered with big heavy clouds,
that they will realise, full of emotion,
that it was by chance of the streets,
on on of thsese infamous benches
that they lived the best part of their love…

Lovers who snog on the public benches,
public benches, public benches,
not giving a toss about the censuring glances
of decent passers-by,
Lovers who snog on public benches,
public benches, public benches,
saying moving "I love you"s to each other,
have nice friendly little faces!

For “The lovers on public benches,” revise the following (just typos):

From:
that it was by chance of the streets,
on on of thsese infamous benches

To:
that it was by chance on one of the streets,
on one of these infamous benches

Thank you, looks rather close to the original. Some minor problems :
- "Les gens qui voient de travers" is an expression half built up by Brassens. Normally, one says "regarder de travers" (to look askance at somebody), or "faire les choses de travers" (to do things wrong). "Penser de travers" = not to be able to think straight. Here I think it would rather mean "to see wrong" or something, perhaps "short-sightened people".
- " dans un bien-être sûr" : I would say "in a safe well-being", rather than "decided"
- "the father, the mother, the son, the "Holy Spirit..." : the daughter is missing! Perhaps "Father, Mother and Daughter, Son and the Holy Spirit" ?
- "that they will realise" : something sounds wrong in that sentence. It's all in the future anyway.
- "that it was by chance of the streets, / on on of thsese infamous benches" : it means something like : "on one of these very benches (we're talking about) they came upon, while walking at random in the streets", but I don't know how to formulate that in good English. Nothing "infamous", in any case.
