The sunset hours

There are hours, let’s say at sunset,
There are moments, let’s say good.
There are bastards,
Politicians and thieves.
There are places, let’s say I did forget
Although I have been there.
There are promises, let’s say I have promised
And I won’t fulfill.

What to think, let’s say at sunset,
What to sing for you my love?
I take th’ guitar and play for you through my hands 1
My soul.

There are hours, let’s say at sunset,
There are mornings when you did wake me with kisses,
There is one memory of some summer
Quite long time ago,
How I did chase you at sunset
Like one of the urchins.
Well, you don’t forget the first love of your life.

What to think...

There are hours, let’s say at sunset,
There are drugs dispensed to the masses.
There are places, let’s say like a home you return to.
There are places we have been in for two years,
There are places we’ve stayed at for minutes,
There are dreams I’ve been dreaming about you and I don’t remember.

What to think...

  • 1. It does make sense with the next line. The singer "pours" his soul through his hands directly to the guitar.

Israel,

A few suggestions for you, nothing wrong with technically just some different phrasing suggestions.

"The Sunset Hours", rather than "Hours at sunset".

There are sons of a whore --> "There are bastards" or "There are sons of bitches"

I take th’ guitar and play for you through my hands --> I take th’ guitar and play for you with my hands

1. OK, no problem.
2.You're are right, I know, if I must I'll choose bastards but this one comes to me quite difficult on my own. Both in Hebrew and in Polish it's sons of a whore, it always was and it always will be in my mind and it is so... much stronger than just bastards. It takes somebody to remind me. But do I really have to? There are so many Spanish speakers in US, they understand me
3. Sorry, no. It's quite strange in Hebrew as well, but this is what Arzi said and this is what should stay. I read it that his hands just convey the melody through to the guitar from somewhere else, he has no conscious control over the context. Perhaps I should put a remark on it, what do you think?
Thanks

Moshe,
I put a remark on item 3.
Can't change the title, look at the first line.
Instead, I'll change No.2.

can i suggest adding it as a footnote? 1 I think it looks better than a "*". Please ask me if you need help with this function. It's simple.

  • 1. this is a footnote

lol. It's all good :-)

2) as you wish of course but more עממי to use one or the other of the sayings that i suggested. The idea gets across in any event.

3) through is fine or perhaps if you want to be less literal and combine the two lines.

Options:

I take th' guitar in my hands and i play my soul for you.

I take th' guitar in my hands and it plays my soul for you.

Also i may be wrong but i am hearing Et Nismati, not At Nishmati which is why i think the two lines can be combined.

You just saved me from bad, bad correction. It was Et Nismati till 10 minutes ago. Now I didn't pay attention and changed it. I'll change it back.
I know what a remark is, but I hate writing regular remarks in Hebrew text. They drive you crazy so I use *. Till a couple of minutes ago I was "multitasking" with house chores and somehow treated the English text as Hebrew. I'll make a regular remark
