Rose Ali

I took the adze from the ground,
I could not hit you.
You could not even make outcast
Your father's heart.

Oh Rose Ali!
My dear Rose Ali!
Play for me Rose Ali!
Dance for me Rose Ali!

My Rose Ali's hair
Shines brightly.
Those who see my Rose Ali
Weep inwardly.

May `Ali`mean red, like Al.
So it is `Red Rose`.

Thanks for the translation.

I believe it's just the name. If it was red rose, it should've been "Al Gül", cause adjectives come before the noun.

Ali is a very common male name, and "Rose" seems to be the nickname of Ali, so I thought that he has perhaps reddish cheeks or a beautiful face. Then I made quick research about the song and found out that the original version of the song is "Kürt Ali", which means Kurdish Ali, and it later turned into "Gül Ali". It sounds quite possible and reasonable.

Interesting. But then, how can a male singer address a male and ask him to play and dance for him.

Sometimes male artists sing a song which a female should sing, and vice versa. I don't know exactly but I think the song doesn't belong to him, he just sang it.

OK. I just hope the song wasn`t originally composed by a pedophile.

If it was, trust me the song would be hated :P

In classical Ottoman poetry, there are thousands of poems addressed to male lovers, written by male poets... Again in some areas of Anatolia, there are male dancers who perform in weddings or other occasions. Thus, it is not about a pedophile but a mere praising of male beauty or attraction... We encounter similar things in the cultural history of Anatolia.
