Guo, Yuan Chao

You said you could understand their world
Bought everything with three sad songs:
Bought Kunlun to rest, and Penglai to store thoughts
Bought people’s disputations to make wine

Bought the crows at Gongzhufen (the Tomb of Princess)
The eventful tree and the consequential hemp*
Bought the boats and the fisherman songs in the Yan Zhi He River (Rouge River)
As well as the laws of the Golden World

- Chorus #1 -
You and I are the same, will soon be forgotten, Guo, Yuan-Chao
Your sickness is also the same as mine: unable to left romance and passion behind, or be emotional towards separations and reunions.
Eventually, the tall buildings will misguide the youths, and the carefree lifestyle will mess up the rest of their lives.
If we have not met at foothills, let’s not meet in the mountains.

Bought the seagulls at the Shi Hui Jie Station (Lime Street Station),
and the landscapes, the animals, as well as that one dream from your youth
Bought the antique ink painting from the bottom of Lake Taiping (Lake Tranquility).
And Copenhagen's fairy tales from your childhood

- Chorus #2 -
Indeed, you and I are the same, whom will eventually be forgotten, Guo, Yuan Chao.
Your sickness is also the same as mine: unable to put down the romance and passion, or feel emotional towards separations and reunions.
Eventually, the tall buildings will misguide the youths, and the carefree lifestyle will mess up the rest of their lives.
If we have not met at foothills, let’s not meet in the mountains.

- Repeat of Chorus #2 above-

If we have not met at foothills, let’s not meet in the mountains.
If we have not met at foothills, let’s not meet in the mountains.

1. The above is a very literal translation of the lyrics. The song contains many references, puns, and metaphors, and it's known to be quite mysterious and literary. Therefore, the interpretations of the lyrics are quite open-ended, and the above is just my own interpretation.
2. The places mentioned in the song, such as Kunlun (Mountains), Penglai, Gongzhufen, Yan Zhi He River, Shi Hui Jie Street, Lake Taiping are actual places located all over China. I personally believe the names carry multiple meanings, so I include literal translations in brackets for some of them.
3. Mount Kunlun and Penglai are also known as the two enchanted places in Chinese mythology.
4*. In this line, tree (mu) and hemp (ma) is actually a wordplay, as the Chinese word ma-mu ((麻木) actually means numbness or indifference. This line could also be translated as "(bought) the numbness towards the incident and the revelation"
5. Within the official video and in its caption, there is a backstory provided for the song. I don't have the time to translate it right now, and if someone else can add it in, it'd be appreciated.
6. The English translation in one of the Youtube comments was also written by me, so this is not a plagiarism.
7. A special thanks to the various questions posted and answered on Zhidao, which help me to understand the song better.
