Hercules

It has become harder to laugh
and it is longer between each time.
And our world has become so little
that one's body feels too crowded,
And soon upbringing is so complete
that those who dig their own grave
don't think about anything other,
than that they should have been paid more.

Come and sit next to me, little friend,
I will tell how it is and how it feels,
And if you promise me to ask how I am,
yes, I promise to ask the same thing.

For Hercules the choice was
regardless rather easy.
There were two paths to choose between:
one was wrong and one was right.
But we stand in our own old forest
without paths or goals,
And although it is desired of us,
that we shall know where we go.

Come and sit next to me, little friend,
I will tell how it is and how it feels,
And if you promise me to ask how I am,
yes, I promise to ask the same thing.

The judgement day gets nearer,
they all say it.
Sears and Prophets
see the end coming towards us.
But if life is a hell for many
and a paradise for few,
what the fuck are they talking about judgement day for,
it is now the same as then!

Come and sit next to me, little friend,
I will tell how it is and how it feels,
And if you promise me to ask how I am,
yes, I promise to ask the same thing.

Mikael Wiehe wrote the following notes on his website (www.mikaelwiehe.se) about this song:

1969 kom The Bands skiva The Band med bl.a. sången The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down. Den och Up on Cripple Creek på samma album var nog två av de sånger som musikaliskt påverkade Hoola Bandoola Band mest." (Kommentar från "Hoola Bandoola Band - Samlade 1971 - 1976", 2004)

"Some of my songs I call "wastebasket". With a completely general refrain, one can put in whatever one wants in the different verses. (Some songs are, for example, Filosofen från Cuenca, Danslåt för yttrandefriheten, like nothing has happened or I sharpen knives). The song got its name after a poem by the Swedish 16th century poet Georg Stiernhielm (yes, I have read the history of literature) where Hercules stood and wondered which path in life he should choose.

In 1969, the Band's record The Band came with, among other songs "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down." That, and "Up on Cripple Creek" on the same album, were certainly two of the songs which affected the Hoola Bandoola Band musically the most."
