Cheops' Pyramid

I am one of many slaving at King Cheops' pyramid,
it's we who labor down at its foot.
Oh, how we toil and how we sweat,
pushed forward by that constant threat
of punishment for those who don't fill their quota.

If you ever end up down here,
you will never be free again,
if you end up here, your life ends in the pit.

But the King, they say, he is a child of the sun.

Behind fifteen double bolts, behind fifteen double locks,
the wealthy hold court in halls of gold.
There is nothing here to threaten them,
it is cool and comfortable.
Here their consciences are spotless like their walls.

For if someone has to die,
or if someone must be beat,
there are others who can bloody their hands.

Here the wails of pain below will never reach.

And to me it seems, in every age,
and amongst every people,
there are those who want to build pyramids;
Where they themselves are on top, holding power in their palm,
whilst those who live below them must submit.

But if those who sit so high above
no longer care to empathize,
instead despising those who bring them food,

Then the pyramids shall end up as their tombs.
