When over the Danube (river) grows dark
and the drowsy Balkan falls asleep,
once again on the battlefields
the fire of uprising burns
Once again the septemberists march
there are numberless countrymen victims
they gloomily curse: "Murderers,
we call you again for a fight!"
The Balkan breeze carries away
our voice towards the faint-hearted enemy
and a deaf threat announce
the village and the dark town.
We swear on your death, comrades,
and on each fallen hero,
that soon the time will come,
the time of the blissful order!
