If Ever They Told You About Me (Smile)

النسخ: #1#2
If ever
they told you about me,
who knows whether, in the end,
you will find
a smile for me.

Even though
for far too long now there has been
silence between us,
I think of you still, you know.

Whatever else
they told you about me,
I hope you will recall
what
I was to you.

Even though
you suffered as much as me,
I hope you will be able
to smile for me—
if ever.

Even though
you suffered as much as me,
I hope you will be able
to smile for me—
if ever.

This is an adaptation of a 1954 song entitled "Smile" first recorded by Nat King Cole and later covered by many other artists including Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson. The lyric dates from 1954 but the melody dates from 1936 where it was part of the soundtrack for Charlie Chaplin's movie entitled "Modern Times." Chaplin composed the music himself based on passages from Puccini's opera, "Tosca." See full details in: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smile_(Charlie_Chaplin_song)
