I ran into the streets
fire at my legs was earth

What to remember, what to forget

When I was a child
I flew out of the crib
but knives was all I saw
in the City's* neighborhoods

One dawn I was hunted
took to the streets
the earth burning my feet
and loneliness on my shoulders

Bring me water to quench my thirst
and a rock to rest
What to remember, what to forget
of all I've been through

* In greek, πόλη means city. Should you come across the word πόλη with a capital letter (Π), like in this song, it's about Konstadinoupoli, the city that is known by the name Istanbul today.
This city, however you call it, is of great significance for the Greeks both from a historic and a religious standpoint.

The song is about the genocide of Greek communities in Turkey in 1922
