Knizhnoe

Of books

Ye pages of dusty ancient books,
    divulge your secrets.
Tell me of bygone days
    and wars of old,
of knights who prevailed
    over pain and fear,
of otherworldly maidens
    and dark warlocks.
Unveil for me the lost worlds
    shrouded in shadows,
reveal the fantastic beasts
    that prowl unknown gardens,
expose the story of people
from their birth to their grave,
uncover the empires1
    that once trampled the land.
Tell me, where are they now,
    where did they all go?
Which fates2 wiped them
off the face of the earth?
The answers lie hidden between the lines
    of worn-out pages,
and facing all that is forever gone
I bow my head to the ground.
  • 1. "empires of emperors", using the broadest meaning of "tzar" ("Caesar")
  • 2. "paths"
Do whatever you want with my translations.
They no more belong to me than the air I breathe.

Very nice. Makes me want to read more books!
Trying to make it rhyme would likely produce a convoluted result, if any at all Regular smile

Oh, thank you so much!
It is so poetic and stylish. As if from an old book itself. I feel honored!
I read it with great pleasure! ♥

I don't see any errors. I guess Ye comes from the olde days of thine or something.😀

Indeed. That might be a bit too much, but "O books" sounds kind of silly to me.
Maybe it's just me, but talking to all sorts of things sounds a lot less natural in English than in Russian. It is certainly a lot less common, at any rate.
