Retro Idols Part II : More Idols

This is the continuation of my first collection page: "Retro Idols of the 1970s and 1980s" that's already full. 1980s was called "the golden age of idol", there were too many Japanese idols in the past, one page with 100 slots isn't enough to include them all, so this page serves as extended storage to add more retro idols.

For retro idols related videos, stats, data and contents, I will still add them there in the first collection page. This second part is mostly for adding more idols that can't be added there.

In her career, she has released a total of 4 singles and 1 original album. Out of all her singles, only one managed to chart at #57 while the rest failed to reach top 100 in Oricon chart. 49. Ribbon Изпълнител/група

Ribbon was an idol trio debut in December 1989 and active mostly in the first half of 1990s, with their members: Sato Aiko (born: October 22, 1973), Nagasaku Hiromi (born: October 14, 1970) and Matsuno Arimi (born: February 13, 1973). The group was born from Fuji TV's "Otomejuku", an idol-training variety show, which the members were picked from the regulars of that show (just like CoCo). Ribbon made their debut on December 6, 1989. The third member supposed to be another idol trainee: Nakajima Michiyo (later became solo idol) but replaced by Sato Aiko.  During idol winter period when top idols were rare, Ribbon along with CoCo were among the more popular idols.

In their career, they have released a total of 13 singles and 6 original albums. Ribbon didn't have one especially high selling song but they had consistency, which from their 2nd to 11th single each sold 40k - 50k copies. Although RIbbon never announced their official disbandment, the group was presumably "disbanded" around the end of 1994 to 1995.

50. Shōjotai Изпълнител/група

Shojotai was an idol trio active in mid to late 1980s.

The members:

Miho (born: August 31, 1969), real name: Aida Miho

Reiko (born: October 18, 1969), real name: Yasuhara Reiko

Chiiko (born: December 8, 1969), real name: Ichikawa Mieko. She left the group in 1985, one year after their debut, due to her injury (herniated disc).

Tomo (born: November 3, 1972), real name: Hikita Tomoko, pic: 1, 2. She joined Shojotai in 1985 to replace Chiiko.

Shojotai was formed in 1983 after the three members: Miho, Reiko and Chiko were selected through audition. It was an ambitious project with 300 millions yen were spent on their debut alone. Their debut song, debut album and MV were recorded in Los Angeles which involved American musicians. The producer for their first song used to work with Yamaguchi Momoe and Pink Lady (two biggest idols in 1970s). Shojotai officially debuted on August 28, 1984.

Unfortunately, their first year was riddled with problems one after another. The marketing strategy of limiting their TV exposure backfired. Their first commercial for Glico (a big confectionary company) was postponed due to the Glico-Morinaga case. Their member Chiiko quit because of her injury, Reiko also injured at some point, which cause their some of their scheduled TV performances cancelled.

The next year, they saw their career improved after the involvement of Akimoto Yasushi (the infamous songwriter, the mastermind behind Onyanko Club), which their songs started to be ranked in "The Top Ten". Their popularity also increased in neighboring Asian countries like Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia. In 1985, they appeared in Hong Kong movie. Then they toured Southeast Asia from 1986-1987. In 1988, their single became a hit song in Korea (although the sales were low in Japan). Shojotai became more popular in neighboring Asian countries than in Japan itself.

In the end, Shojotai had a decent success as idol group but all those problems they faced in their first year - the crucial timing - might have hindered them from getting bigger than they were. They disbanded in 1989.

In their career, Shojotai have released a total of 15 singles and 10 original albums. Their total single sales are 518,000 but there's no information about their total sales (all singles + all albums). As for their acting career as a group (not counting each member's solo career), they had appeared in 5 dramas (1985-1987) and 3 movies (1985-1987).

^ another tall celebrity taller than man, but she was probably not idol. Beside her, we can see a lot of familiar faces. The girl next to Hikaru Genji, the girl next to Toshi / Asaka Yui (in back row), and the girl next to Nanno also looked like idols, I don't know who are they but I guess they were actress, not idols.

Some familiar faces from left to right:

Hikaru Genji, Kudo Shizuka, Matsumoto Noriko, Watanabe Minayo, Watanabe Marina, Nanno. Back row: Toshi and Asaka Yui.

Non-idols:

Shimura Ken the comedian, the Tunnels duo, some older male presenters, "Yoru no Hit Studio Deluxe" presenters.

It's a quiz battle between TV programs in Fuji TV in 1988. Each table represents different TV show. There's team "Yoru no Hit Studio Deluxe", " Shimura Ken Show", several dramas, Tunnels variety show, etc, and in the back right corner were the humble news team. 😅

I can tell you about some other idols that I spotted!

Izumi Igarashi (2:18; 五十嵐いづみ), idol singer/actress. Starred in a sukeban deka like show called "Shoujo Commando Izumi", and to sum it up its sukeban deka if the girls had a missile launcher ^^"

Tomoko Nagano (2:24; 長野智子), only had one single so I'm not sure if shes an idol (probably not), she was mainly a radio host and presenter

Theres Yuki Kudo!!

Theres also Hiroko Mita and Yoko Ishino!

I don't think I recognize any other names, but here what they looked like singing their songs in 1988:

^ Released just a month before this special was broadcasted

This was Makos little sister! She debuted in 1985

Hirokos last single was released in 1987, so by 1988 she had stopped singing :,)

For Yuki we have two songs

https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1Db4y1y79Z/?from=search

^ Her comeback single in 1989 "Chotto dake kuzushitai"

^ Kimi no Heart ni Touch, last single as an idol! Its an isert song for the anime Touch

Poor News Teams, left behind out of view TT

I can't find the names you mentioned in the video. But yeah, I've seen the drama of the delinquent girl with rocket launcher. Lol. They just tried everything to make their delinquent drama different than other delinquent dramas. 🤣

I found all the three girls:

- Next to Nanno is Miyazawa Rie, idol debuted in late 1989

- Next to Hikaru Genji is Kitajima Mai. She released only two singles in 1988 and worked mainly as actress.

- Ishino Yoko was in Shimura Ken team, the girl in black next to Matsumoto Noriko and Watanabe Minayo.

(34:52) Kudo Yuki

(37:17) just the pictures: Yamada Kuniko, Saito Yuki, Ken Naoko

Hikaru Genji drama:

Shimura Ken, Matsumoto Noriko, Ishino Yoko

Nanno drama:

^ yes, that drama!

Feedeeri☆Feedeeri☆    понеделник, 18/12/2023 - 20:02

But to be fair to Izumi, her OST album for Shoujo Comando Izumi is fire, you should check out rain, insane watashi wa nakanai! Really good song

I've heard of Rie, not sure if I've ever heard a song of hers tho, same for Mai

Yoko Ishino I know of because shes Makos little sister and she became famous for her comedy sketches the tunnels (so kinda like a comedy baradoru*)

Wish Yuki would have made it there TT

Lol, I've seen that thumbnail so much across the retro idols page 😆

Feedeeri☆Feedeeri☆    събота, 11/11/2023 - 20:37

Today it isn't a video, its a blog entry that mentions idol songs of high quality/that are good that didn't get popular! So I wanted to compare the various entries and compare them to other "high quality" idol songs. So let's get into it ٩(^ᴗ^)۶

The first song is... Mizuiro no Kachusa, the protagonist of the blog entry! You already know it and you know Chie, but I'll still include it

Ofc its a very good song, I mean its Chie afterall! ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა

Second song is... Hitori Bocchi wa kirai by Mie Takahashi, a 1984 idol. I always see a lot of people talking about liking her voice, imo its good, maybe it'll grow on me with time

Third on the list is... Opera Glasses no naka de dake by Eri Murata. Its a good idol song and I like it, as of Eris carrer she ranked atleast once in the oricon top 100 with TOKYO, CITY OF WONDERS. Shame she wasn't popular

Fourth is... 6nen tattara by 1970's idol Izumi Iragashi (was also a Sundays member). I knew of her but never heard her songs before now to be honest, but shes good at singing, might listen to more of her songs ^^

5th is Cinderella by Chika Takami, a 1970's idol. Chika had a hit in her carrer with the shiseido tie-up song Kuchibiru Nude. Chika sadly passed away in december 2022

6th is September rain ni kesarete by Kaori Tsuchiya. I really like this song, it was my first Kaori song too.

^ at 2:14 you can see a big panda plushie in the audience!

And next is Star by Chiemi Kai, her debut song! Its a very good song, and its a perfect debut to make a star ^^. Sadly it only charted at 103 TT

And last on the list... Blue Estranger, Yukie Kawakamis debut! Yukie was a grand champion of Star Tanjo, and shes and amazing singer! Heres an amazing performance down below  o(≧∇≦o)

Now lets rank them from most popular to least (so using oricon positions)

Star: 103

Mizuiro no Kachusa: 180

Blue Estranger: 192

Didn't enter the top 100, position in the top 200 unknown:

Opera Glass no naka de dake

Cinderella

6-nen dattara

Hitori bocchi wa kirai

My favourite among all of these is Blue Estranger, its just such a good song, it deserved atleast a top 30 entry in the oricon top 100. Close ones are Star and Opera Glass no naka de dake

But now for some personal entries (so idols I think could enter the list ^^)

Lonely Girl by Yuri Sato. A great song, and my favourite of hers by far! I listen to this song atleast once a week ^^

NO RETURN by Yoshiko Miyazaki, its a good song that not a lot of people talk about

This entry is just in general for Patty, shes such a good idol and my favourite to have debuted in 1980 (yes, she surpasses even the queen ^^"). So many people don't talk about her and its a big shame

Bessy, a singer from greece that became an idol for a short while in Japan! Do I even have to add anything, I mean the video talks volumes about her fantastic singing. This song came at like 83 on the charts and sold either 2,300 copies or 23,000 (I can't remember)

Lou Fin Chau, wich you already know, but I had to include her because shes just so good. My fave is Kita Monogatari, wich sadly doesn't have any live performances

Another personal favourite, I really like her songs and her singing voice. All of her songs are good, but this one is one of her best!

RetroPandaRetroPanda
   събота, 11/11/2023 - 22:42

Wow! So many hidden gems. For me personally, I like Mizuiro no Kachusa by Kobayashi Chie the most among that list. I also like the story in its lyrics. What's wrong with the people back then. How could a song like that only ranked #180 in Oricon chart.

Blue Estranger by Kawakami Yukie is also very good.

The song from Tsuchiya Kaori is also good. And she looked so pretty there. That haircut, outfit, even with an umbrella (minus Cecile) and that expression, that's probably Kaori's best looks.

Talking about plushie, I'll let you see something cute

I have my own favorite list of retro idol songs. Since I've done 900+ of their songs so I can't just recall all the good ones right away, but some of my huge favorites:

Onna ni Nare by Morikawa Miho

I didn't know and didn't care about Morikawa Miho until I heard this song, I didn't care about the queue anymore and must translated her song right away. This song just left a big impression on me

Friends by Rebecca (*not idol)

True, Mizuiro no Kachusa is very good. I love a lot of Chie songs, but that one is really special. I still don't understand how it only got 1980 while some songs that aren't as good became hits, Chie herself deserved to be a top idol, she had it all

Among 1983 idols, shes one of the best! How could a class of idols have so many talented singers and not get recognized?! (Actually, next time I'll talk about the other under appreciated class, I'm not as huge as a fan of them as the 83 class, but they deserve a mention atleast)

True, all of her performances of September Rain are so cute, they're my personal faves from her. Shame that this song probably wasn't one of her biggest hits

Aww! Thats so cute!! I wonder if she still has the plushie

Miho Morikawa is very good, I also didn't really care about her until I heard onna ni naare and her singing ability left an impression on me. I have so many Miho songs I wanna add, I think I'll add them after Micchons turn (*I've been postponing poor Micchon for like a month or two now)

Friends is also my fave Rebecca song, it came up randomly on spotify shuffle and I loved it!

I love Free Balloon by Nami Shimada, I love it so much! Pastel Blue no Tameiki is also another favourite

Same, thats also my fave, tho I have some more songs of hers that I like that, again, I want to upload (If I ever get done with some other idols)

Yuki Saito is so good!! Shes one of my favourite big idols, I have so many albums of hers that I love (Top 3 is AXIA, Love, Chime). I need to get around to uploading them

I love wink, but my favourite has to be Special to me. The lyrics, the music, the last part where they repeat special to me, so good! Another good one is shining star. Among their singles, I like Ai ga tomaranai, I know it by heart atp ^^

By Kyon Kyon my fave is adesugata namida musume. It was my first Kyon Kyon song, and it has a special place in my heart ^^. Second place goes to Nudist

Miporins best songs are that one, WAKU WAKU sasete and Morning Peninsula. I recently got some recos on Miporin albums, and I want to listen to Angel Hearts and Exotique

I really like Shi-chans debut song, debut album and Arashi no Sugao. Another good album is Harvest

By Momoko I really like Alfa Flight, Glass no Sougen (the first song of hers I listened to) and Koi no Projection. A good album of hers is TROPIC of CAPRICORN!

By Seiko I really like Honki ni S O R R Y and Kaze wa Akiiro. I want to listen to her albums Strawberry Time and We are love!

Where do I begin with Akina? I love all of her discography, but I had to pick some singles of hers I'd go Jukkai 1984, Slowmotion, Jounetsu. For albums, her first three are some of my faves, and among them I'd say that Bon Voyage is my fave album exclusive song

Tomoyo I like Tokimeki no Accident!

I was actually wondering today with wich idol your series began, but Mebae is a really good song!

Among top Idols, I'd say these are my fave songs:

Yukko is so good, easily one of my favourite idols. I always love hearing these two songs in particular

I love Yuki, its hard for me to define a top 3 of my fave idols, but Yuki is defo somewhere close if not up there. Kanshou Romance and Straw Hat no Natsuomoi were my two first Yuki songs (and Kansho Romance is also my highest viewed song, it keeps getting viewed despite the fact that I uploaded it a while ago), while Dare no seidemo nai is just such a good song

My fave from her, her vocals are amazing

My first Minako song, its just so GOOD!! I still love it now, and Minako was one of my first idols ^^

My fave Onyanko soloist!

Second fave Nyan Nyan!

Her best single imo, I also love her album "MUSIC"

Yumi was one of my first idols and this was my first song of hers ^^

Again, they were probably my third idols. This song is such a mood lifter for me

And last but not least by any means:

My favourite song. I still remember the day that I found this, and honestly this song means the world to me, I wouldn't have found Minako, BaBe, Yumi if it weren't for it, and if I didn't find Minako I would be here posting songs and typing this message. I love Miki, her discography and most importantly, this song ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა♡

I reco the Bunkamura version of the song too! Its on spotify and it sounds great ૮₍ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ₎ა (https://open.spotify.com/intl-it/track/4tuE7scYjQKxFt1omtBCvU?si=4176609...)

Stress is also my favourite Chisato song, its so fun

The song that Kana auditioned with!

Miki is such a good idol, Komusume heartbreak might be one of her catchiest songs!

Splendid Love is such a good song, its a shame it ranked so low

My favourite from Yoshimi is "Whats Love?", if you haven't listened to it I recomend it so much! Its one of her best songs alongside Aka to Kuro

Tokimeki ga itakute is my fave Chieri song, its so good! (I'll never hearbreak tokimeite⁓)

I love tomadoi by Mariko, it fits her so much

Toshie has such a particular voice, I think it sounds great ^^!

Today its a collection of idol videos that are related, in some ways, to eachothers! (Mainly because the video I'm working on is like 3 hours (◎_◎;)

So, the theme is "idol trios". Now hearing that you might have some names in mind, like Candies, Warabe, Mi-Ke etc, but there were so many more idol trios, and I'll give you a selection of some that are interesting!  o(≧∇≦o)

So, the first one is related to Candies. As you already know, Candies announced their retirment pretty suddenly, and their agency was scrambling to get a successor to Candies. So who did they do? They formed a trio;

- Candies Junior, or atleast that was supposed to be the name, but they recived such harsh backlash from Candies fan that they changed the name to Triangle. They picked out 3 girls from 1,200 girls (yes, that many), and they started appearing on shows in wich Candies were regulars, once even appearing with them. As soon as Candies were gone, they debuted with Triangle Love Letter, wich peaked at 28, so clearly people were interested for a bit, but then their second single fell to 85 and their third single did better at 67. They disbanded in 1981 after 7 singles and 2 albums. Out of their members, only one had a solo carrer in 1983 and I think she might have been an idol. Below you'll find a performance of "Triangle Love Letter"!

In another universe, that title would probably be right ^^"

What happens when a parody group of Mi-Ke is created? Well, you get...

HI-ME! HI-ME debuted in 1991 and they lasted untill 1993, releasing 3 singles. I can't find any information online, but I can tell you that they are considered to be the original "Pachinko Idols", thats because their debut,  watashi no 777, was a tie-up for some pachinko machine. Other than that, i have no idea about what the ex members are doing or if their songs charted ^^". Theres a live performance tho,

During the boom of AV idol trios, one stood out to me,

- Lemon Angel: just like Eriko they had an anime of their own, and they debuted with a cover of the catchy Bananarama song Love in the first degree. They were pretty popular, tho that didn't reflect on good oricon chart positions (they were always in the 80 to 90 range, one song shot up to 62. They had a lot of media presence, as in an anime, a manga, they were created for a movie/show, radio shows, events, etc etc ^^"

But their not the only idols to have covered this catchy song, BaBe did one and its honestly my favourite

Since we're talking about trios, I felt like bringing 3 was perfect, but there is atleast one other trio that I really like, but for now I'm keeping the 3 (๑>ᴗ<๑)

Lol. Candies junior? 😅 I think their agency just wanted to ride the momentum because Candies highest peak and highest sales were right after they announced they were disbanding. Apparently it failed because Candies would always be Ran, Miki and Sue, not some random impostors. They even dressed like Candies. At least they released 7 singles, not 2. 😅

Bonus: what Candies (*the real ones) might look like if they're early 1980s idols:

I didn't remember their name but I think I've seen them before because I remember that big "777" sign. Pachinko idol sounds nice, they could find a niche market.

Lemon Angel. I like their song's intro music, it reminds me of Chisato. And I remember that show, I think Ozawa Natsuki, Yoshida Mariko and Hatada Rie have performed in that tv program.

The idols from outer space were also a trio, right? Can't remember their name, Starbow or Stardust or Stargaze. 🛸

Feedeeri☆Feedeeri☆    петък, 17/11/2023 - 20:12

Yea, I feel like they would have done better as just a new group that didn't have anything to do with Candies, in the end they got a hit but it didn't result in long-term good sales TT

Omg, that song! I listened to it a few months ago and I even have a translation for it somewhere in my drafts! They sound amazing tho, the two ""manequins"" remind me of that performance of I dont Know! by BaBe

Its always interesting to hear idols that fill a niche, like the metal idol, pop-rock idol, endorus, techno idols, etc etc. Most of them end up being good singers, ngl ^^

Chisato should do more Europop covers, I mean she'd be perfect for it (*Same for Oginome-Chan and Yoko, I have three europop songs of hers that I need to add ^^")

I don't know much about 1980's idols shows, but if they performed on there then it means it was for late 80's idols. Kinda like Lotte Album Caffe, I always saw 1986-1989 idols on there ^^. I should actually start to research smaller idol shows, there are a lot of them that Im interested in but can't find the name of

Yes, Starbow! They were indeed a trio, and to be honest I like their music. Their discography is 17 songs, some of wich instrumentals, so I might end up adding their songs since it would take like two weeks only. On the long list they go! (In my defense, Yuki Kudo has a long discography, she even released a single on the 8th of November, but I also have been taking two days breaks to add one single idols ^^"). The trio wich I was thinking about is very small yet its in some ways linked to a mega idol group, I guess a cat has to do with this big group ^^

I think those companies should learn that "the next Candies", "the next Pink Lady", "the next Momoe", etc all failed because there's no way they could replace the originals. Meanwhile most big idols in 1980s each had their own characteristic, they're not "the next (insert any name)". But it's also a pity that being picked out of 1200 people must had given them high hope yet they failed.

I found that video when I watched Triangle. At the beginning, their fahshion looks like early 1980s idols, but I just noticed that at the end of the video, Candies look like late 1990s idols.

In the list of 1990s idols you posted yesterday, I also found two niche idols: "Otaku idol" (produced by Iijima Mari) and "the first virtual idol" (idol whose face was always censored, and this character was played by several girls).

To be honest, I prefer early Chisato with songs like "Mihaa", "Stress", "17sai", but unfortunately those style sold much less compared to her "normal pop songs" which brought her to the top. Oginome and eurobeat were perfect matches, when she was orthodox idol she didn't sell, but once she became the "dancing hero", she turned into top idol with 5 millions+ sales and several Kohaku.

Yes, that show was definitely aired in late 1980s. Maybe I've even seen Yuuyu (post Onyanko) there.

At least I've found most of the names of their major music programs, including "Ohayo, Asahi Desu!".

LOL, I thought you said Starbow have released 17 singles, I was like really?? Now you're talking about trio, they start to come to my mind. Kudo Shizuka was part of a trio called "Seventeen" before she joined Onyanko. As Onyanko member, she also got a sub-group trio with Saito Makiko and Ikuina. Kid Oginome was part of a trio called "Milk". Both Shonentai and Shojotai were trio. Tanaka Minako was part of a small no name trio before her solo debut. Of course there's Shibugakitai. There's Tanokin Trio (Toshi, Matchy, Yo-chan). In early 1990s there were: Mi-Ke, Lip's, Ribbon, Qlair, all were trios. Jump back to the 1970s, they're not really a trio but there's "Hana no Chusan" trio.  (;´∀`) . There's also "Kazama Sanshimai" from Sukeban Deka 3 (Asaka Yui, Nakamura Yuma, Onishi Yuka). Then there's Hana Asukagumi or whatever they called, which include Ozawa Natsuki.

Feedeeri☆Feedeeri☆    събота, 18/11/2023 - 08:19

Yea, its sad that so many talented girls were driven on a path that didn't garantee success at all and often made them the subject of mocking by people. Same goes for the little sister idols, a lot of them were crazy talented, but theres nothing new about "x singers" little sisters. Then again, the idol world is filled of actuall sisers, like Kayo Agatsumas, Agnes Chans, Asaoka Megumis, Hiromi & Yoshimi

Yea, that virtual idol is the one I wanted to talk to you about! The thing is, she wasn't created to be a virtual idol per say, Haga Yui (I usually don't go last name to first name, but if you connect those two you get a word ^^") was created to be a joke, a joke whos debut actually managed to sold and break the top 100 (thats when the creator decided that it was probably time to call off this big thing). Theres also the idol who was kicked for bad behaviour who has really good vocals (and people actually weren't sure of her existence before the internet, they kinda treated her like a legend ^^"). Another really good one is Akiho Sendo, I really like her vocals

The Mihaa is such a fun song, but I remember that the title alone seemed so hard to translate based on your authors comment ^^". My fave Chisato song is Stress, its just so fun. Oginome is just too good with europop, her songs are just so good!

Oh god, that would have taken atleast a month to upload (;´∀`). But some idols find ways to remain in the industry for so long, like Yuki Kudo. She has a lot of singles even after her decline in sales

Yea, Seventeen Club! Their songs are basically the opposite of solo Shi-chan (Their song titles, Suki yo! Makoto-kun and Virgin Crisis, are a dead giveaway ^^")

In the 1990s a lot of idol trios just saddenly appeared out of nowhere ^^"". Most of them didn't have massive success, but that didn't stop them from appearing and releasing singles

The hana no chusan trio was in a series of a lot of trios, but the 19970's actually had a lot of Candies followers

Natsukis trio actually had very good sales, they went to number 9 but I dont remember the sales

Feedeeri☆Feedeeri☆    събота, 25/11/2023 - 23:01

Today I bring to you the world of "Post Momoes" and idols that had anything to do with Momoe. Momoe was such a big idol that she influenced a lot of singers, so let's see how they fared and if they truly lived up to the title of the next Momoe

- Yumiko Araki

Let's start off light with an idol that wasn't a Momoe follower per say, but she did debut with a song that was rejected by Momoe: Nagisa de Cross by Yumiko Araki. The song was said to have originally been intended for Momoe, and you can guess how that might have been an interesting song to debut with. It ended up being released in 1978 and it peaked at number 56 on the Oricon Charts

Heres a live performance:

- Nancy Kumi

You might know that there were a lot of idol-pro wrestlers, but did you know that there was a "Momoe of the wrestling world"? Nancy Kumi debuted with that catch-phrase. She also formed a duo with another wrestler, and this duo would also debut as idols: Golden Pair. As an idol, her debut Yumemiru Nancy peaked at number 94, and she released her last single in 1981

Heres a live performance of her last single:

Misako Tanaka

This one is a bit particular, but I wanted to include her because I saw someone describe her as "Not a Momoe follower, but a predecessor of Akinas cool route". She debuted in 1983, but I can only find info on the oricon positions of the duo she was in with a fellow idol in 1997, jelly beans ^^". Heres her debut song:

- Eri Satō

We already talked about her earlier today, but I'll re-introduce her since shes very much relevant to this ヾ(≧▽≦*)o. Eri got her start in dramas and movies as a Momoe body double: basically if Momoe couldn't make it because she was busy for anything else they'd use Eri as a stand-in. With this on her resume, it makes sense that an agency would scout her and she'd debut in 1980 as a Momoe follower. She was also a part of Sundays (and Juri Hamada was also a Sundays member ^^"). I can't find her oricon positions TT

Her debut:

There are a couple more, but I'll spare you from having to read about a small idol that debuted with something that had to do with Momoe ^^"

RetroPandaRetroPanda
   събота, 25/11/2023 - 23:53

Momoe was the "queen" for good reason, her influence was still there few years after she retired

To me, Araki Yumiko sounds more like Minami Saori than Momoe. It also shows their fashion had changed so much between 1970s and 1980s idols.

The pro wrestler girl used so much strength in her coreography. I don't know if that was intentional or she wasn't used to dancing, her moves look like fighting moves. Momoe didn't move like that. lol. (ᕑ﹆ᗢ﹆ᓫ) . At least she could sing. I wanna see Matsumoto Dump sing too. lol.

Tanaka Misako did sound like Akina. But she debuted in 1983, Akina in 1982. And it doesn't make sense that the "queen" would follow some random small idol. Her voice was very good tho.

Sato Eri was the cutest among them all (*imagine her in late 1980s fashion), such a waste for her to just be a body-double. I can hear some Momoe since her first word, but I can't see her replacing Momoe. "Sundays" had a lot of good singers.

Also notice the stage set. In 1980, the white arch wasn't built yet in "Let's Go Young". Instead, they had what look like structures from Star Wars / Star Trek. (;´∀`)

Feedeeri☆Feedeeri☆    неделя, 26/11/2023 - 09:22

True, her dress looks out of the 1960's Addams family tv show lol

Makes sense, she also sang right in the ring XD. I wonder how different late 1970's/early 80's idol wrestlers are to late 80's idol pro wrestlers. But true, she was able to sing!

In 1983 Akina hadn't set completely on the cool route yet, she was still experimenting: 1982: Slowmotion and Shoujo A: the first is the tipical cute idol song (look at how cute the cover is! ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა), while Shoujo A was more of a provocative song (That I don't really like ^^"). Then Second Love came (wich I don't know how to classify, but its a great song non the less!!). I guess after that it was gradually beginning to become cooler and cooler, look at the evolution of her singles covers!

She did become an actress after her idol carrer ended, but it sadly wasn't very successful ^^". But she was really cute, her cover for Love Sketch is simple yet cute!

True, and before they started to use this kinda rotational sistem, their sundays had Candies among them! After Candies disbanded they began to kinda scout idols. Heres the evolution of the Lets Go Young! stage from their first idol to their last

^ I think this was lets go young? If not then I have the second sundays performance

...and their last idol:

*I can't find Yoko Nagayamas performances in Lets go young in 1985 TT, but a lot of her idol songs are good, I highly sugest that you check them out! I'll upload them sometime (I've already set a list of idols, poor Micchon will get her turn after Yoshimi and Mami Yamase will go after Micchon)

Feedeeri☆Feedeeri☆    неделя, 26/11/2023 - 09:32

LMAO, who would have guessed~ Maybe shes always gloomy because her singing carrer didn't have much success (ᕑ﹆ᗢ﹆ᓫ)

RetroPandaRetroPanda
   неделя, 26/11/2023 - 12:25

lol. Even Wednesday Adams wears cat ears ribbon

I've seen one or two pro wrestlers who tried to be idols from very late 1980s in that Youtube channel regularly uploading retro idol videos. Can't remember her name but looks-wise, she looked as cute as idols, just muscular.

The evolution of the "queen". From cute to cool to epic....to shell of herself partly thanks to a certain someone.

I see another pattern there. 1970s idols coreography often included the little bouncing and slight hand movements. 1980s idols usually did the figure 8 swinging movement (don't know what that's actually called).

I just saw Nagayama Yoko yesterday in award video. But it's the early verison of her with long hair and dress, not the Oginome style.

Feedeeri☆Feedeeri☆    неделя, 26/11/2023 - 12:37

One of them might have been Cuty Suzuki, from what I saw she was a popular idol pro-wrestler, and she was so cute that you'd find her pictures next to ones of idols in magazines like Momoco ^A^

Yea, I saw a pic of Akina recently and I hope shes taking care of her health, she looked sickly and pale : (

The bouncing reminds me of the coreography of Yoshies debut song, meanwhile the complex coreography brings me to Saint Four and The idols on unicicles ^^"

I like both versions of her: The cute and bouncy orthodox idol and the cool, europop idol version of herself, shes just that good ٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و ♡

RetroPandaRetroPanda
   неделя, 26/11/2023 - 14:11

Yes, she's Cutie Suzuki

It's not that obvious in that video but think I've seen other video that shows her biceps (which clearly shows the body of professional athlete, not your average idol), not sure if they're the same person.

Akina has been through a lot. 🥲

Feedeeri☆Feedeeri☆    неделя, 26/11/2023 - 14:34

While I don't know much about idol-prowrestlers, I assume they must be the same person since she did seem to be fit in the performance + I don't think there were as many idol wrestlers in the late 80's as there were in the late 70's/early 80's

Yea, poor Akina. She deserves way better and she didn't deserve to have such a scumbag do that to her (ꐦ𝅒_𝅒)

Feedeeri☆Feedeeri☆    неделя, 26/11/2023 - 15:10

I agree. If I'm not wrong he also did that to another singer ヽ(#`Д´)ノ

Feedeeri☆Feedeeri☆    понеделник, 08/01/2024 - 15:16

I found a video of Chiemi and Iyo from 1986!

In a comedy sketch of some kind, and at 0:55 we can see a Matsumoto Dumb bootleg, but who are the other two girls? Well, one is endoru (Enka + idol) Naomi Matsui, while the other one in the striped dress is todays star, Tamae Sawada

Tamae entered the entertainment industry after winning the CBS Sony "Teen Pops" contest at just 12 in 1983, and due to her very young age it was decided to wait untill she entered high school before she debuted, and so they waited and she finally debuted on april 2nd (basically as soon as she was a high schooler) with Hana no Sei-Watashi no ON・AIR-, with the catchprase "Sonys Mistery", so clearly Sony believed in her, but sadly her debut only got to 61. She followed it up with another single, but that one sadly failed to reach the top 100

Her father really opposed her being in the industry, so finally after only 6 months she retired because of her fathers wishes and she only released one movie that came out after her retirement. She stayed at Horikoshi for 1 year, and I think you can guess who she befriended, and Tamae and this girl still keep in touch to this day!

She even got praise for her performance in the movie, and she was clearly a talented singer, its such a waste for her to retire so early T-T. She made a comeback as an actress in 1997 and stopped being active in 2003, and since then I don't think shes been seen

RetroPandaRetroPanda
   понеделник, 08/01/2024 - 17:15

She only released two singles in her entire (short) career, both were composed by the infamous Tsutsumi Kyohei, but even Tsutsumi Kyohei couldn't help with her sales. 🥲

Out of what little information she has in Wikipedia, there's the "she is still close friends with her Horikoshi classmate, N*******a T****i. Who's not friends with N*******a T****i anyway. 😆

Based on the narrator voice, that seems to be in "Yan Yan Uta Studio". Iyo didn't look like Iyo until she spoke, because there's only one person with that voice among 1980s idol 😅. Hori Chiemi looked better in long hair, not sure why she never had long hair during her idol days.

Even Matsumoto Dump had a clone 😆, seems like she was one of the pop culture icons around 1986-1987 😅. The fake Matsumoto Dump sounds like the other guy in Shimura Ken videos. Zombie guy sounds like the "Yan Yan Uta Studio" comedian who usually dressed as women.

I think I haven't seen her in T****i's blog, at least not recently. 😅

Such a shame, the songs are really good, but I think 1986 was a difficult year since Onyanko was still rampant with its soloists, had she debuted in 1987, I think she could have had a better chance, or maybe if her father let her continue her carrer she could have become a big actress

Right, it only took her one year to become close friends with Tamae and still keep in contact with her 😆. Maybe one day they'll see eachother and take pictures!

So Tamae must have performed in YanYan too! I'm not sure why she never had longer hair, maybe it came down to marketing or even personal preference?

I mean if Cutie Suzuki was influential in her time then why couldn't Matsumoto Dump be an icon 😆. Based on the desc of the video, I think the Matsumoto impersonator is Shimura Ken, or atleast he was in the skit

Maybe they haven't met in a long time, her most recent pictures are from the 2000's T-T

I like the music. Tsutsumi Kyohei always added some special elements in his songs.

Maybe she should be more stubborn like Kamachi Noriko or Sato Kayo. 😅 Even if her songs didn't sell, she could be like Shinobu or a baradoru like Yamase Mami.

Lol. It took only several hours to a day for the entire idol Hawaii vacation casts to warm up to Tomo-chan. Or to quote Risa recent blog post: "When Tomomi is around, it feels like being with my sister and I feel relieved"  😅

Yes, it's surprising to see someone with two singles and brief idol career to appear together with Iyo, Hori Chiemi and Shimura Ken.

Lol. They even included Matsumoto Dump in idol Hawaii vacation although she wasn't idol. And in idol swimming pool games, there's also Matsumoto Dump among the idols. 😆 In Matsumoto Dump pro wrestling matches in 1986, I saw Osawa Itsumi as one of the commentators. She even 'attacked' "Yuuyake Nyan Nyan" after the male host taunted her. 😅

Yeah, maybe that's Shimura Ken, not sure because of his face paint.

True, the b-side is also very good! I'm unsure of what song I should upload tomorrow, her second single or the B-side of her first single, they are both so good

I wish she would have been more stubborn! She was a hit in the making, she already had a second movie role ready but she got replaced due to her retiring, plus she could maybe do tie-in songs for her movies like the pony-tail idol and Hiroko

Tomo-chan was just such a good person, like she just seems like such a friendly person, we all need a Tomomi in our lives! 😆

I guess Sony used some of their magic, but I've also seen a lot of small idols on Yan Yan, so who knows

Lol, next thing you know shes in the Momoco Magazine on the front page, but guess she didn't achieve Momoko (the idol!) level of popularity and got a magazine named after her 😆

The Nyan Nyans got to watch a free wrestling match! Only one of the two participants didn't know that they were getting into it ^^"

I'm not sure either, but I guess he must be one of the two guys

Maybe upload both. 😅 lol. Or you can upload one of the masterpiece "songs" of Matsumoto Dump. 😅

I saw her movie or drama on YouTube. Seems like she played as the main lead.

Late 1980s idols friendship were revolved around Tororin. 😆

Maybe it's the power of Sony and their connection. 😅

Matsumoto Dump "attacked" Yuuyake Nyan Nyan after the male host taunted her on the phone:

^ we can see Matsumoto Dump and Matsumoto Iyo in the same screen. 😅

If she went to Momoco Club, she would scare the Momoco girls. Even more if she sang. 😅

I saw Shimura Ken in early 1980s "Yan Yan Uta Studio" with Seiko / NaoNao. Maybe he was once part of "Yan Yan" casts.

I wonder if the lyrics are even online, like who bought her single? Are there live performances? I'm actually curious at this point

Yes, she got the main lead! The movie was released after she retired, I wonder if she went to the premiere

She could form an army if she wanted to ^^"

The fairy goodmother sony gave her good opportunities!

Lol, now immagine how much different sukeban deka would have been with her as the lead 😆

Since he was a commedian I assume he must have gone on a lot of shows before he got his own
