On me soigna, j'étais heureux
Personne me l'dira : vous l'avez rêvé
On change bien malgré soit

Превод
The small silver medal
Hidden under the ground, their ears on the lookout
The poilus greet with their quips
The tragic hum of the big pots
When from the command everythings rushes
Rosalie, my beautiful, it is the moment to charge
Colonel in the lead, flag unfurled
We leave for the assault, everyone is part of the party
We run, we stumble, finally I stop
I believe that I have flinched
This time I am well touched
The small silver medal
That I accepted so reluctantly
Was simply crossed
As for me, there was not too much damage
I was treated, I was happy
My friends said: you are lucky!
As a good luck charm it's worth it
And I thought while lowering my eyes
It doesn't matter if you're joking or being clever
If it doesn't do any good, it certainly doesn't do any harm
I think I'm a good citizen like all of you
I don't do politics, I don't understand it
But I've got a straight glance and a sincere soul
And I took an oath, if I came back from the war
To tell what happened to me
Nobody will tell me: you dreamed it
Those wars, why bother doing them with beliefs?
Those who come back will tell you one thing:
It is that in the hours of fright
We change in spite of ourselves
A small silver medal
A little nothing that we despise
It is sometimes comforting
When death brushes against you
In life there comes a time
Where the bravest man shivers
I don't want to influence anyone but
I'll admit to you sincerely
To have in this world a little bit of ideal
If it doesn't do any good, it surely doesn't do any harm.

My translation is pretty simple. someone else could propose better words for this.
" The poilus " Is the nickname of french soldier during the WW1 , because thew were very hairy due to the circumstance. It could be translate as " hairy"
"sous la bise" = I couldn't translate this properly. The "bise" is the action to say hi by kissing each cheeks , a very common greeting in France. However, I may not fully understand what he meant by saying this. It could be roughly translate as " When death brushes you under you kissed cheek " , but I'm not certain about it

The connection of the words is very familiar :
Je = J'
De = D'
Le = L'
Ne = N'
could be difficult to understand for a non-native French speaker. Some words are chewed the same way
