I am so grateful that you have translate this poem, and especially for the short story by Saadi you offer to the reader here. It is beautiful and I would like to read more! And that was what I meant here: In former times people were joking about lazy civil servants, but now...

Der Fingerhut
- 2. Please see author's comment

I use slightly modified Persian orthography in my translations.
An unjust ruler asked a man of god "What will be the finest act of worship for me?" "The afternoon nap" replied the pious man"Since you don't hurt people during that short period "
I saw a cruel one sleeping in the middle of the day
"this one better sleep than wrecking havoc" I thought
And when one's sleeping is better than being awake
Death suits him much more better than a sinister life

Thanks also for reading the translation! :) *heart*
I translated this short story myself. However, Saadi's books have been widely translated into European languages (see here).
The story is from Golestan (Lit. a flower garden), a well-known book by Saadi, You can find a complete well-known translation of the whole book here.
