Multiple times I have seen people uploading songs where the repeating lines mark is shown right inside the text, for example:

Прийшли до нашої землі
Брудні нікчемні москалі,
І ця земля могилою вам стане! | x2

...where x2 shows the repeating lines. But the problem is that in the original song(https://lyricstranslate.com/uk/taras-borovok-zapowit-rosijanam-w-den-nar...), all three of those lines repeat twice, while some people may understand the above marking as the repeating of only one line.

Of course, nobody would make the author to make the correct marking, but could there be some feature that allows to mark all chosen lines by the TRANSLATOR as repeating and how much times? It would really make any text with repeating lines much more easier to follow.

As someone who adds all the repetitions found in lyrics I add (as I don't like the numbers hanging there), I know what you mean. But I don't have a problem (well, maybe because I mostly translate songs I add myself, so I follow my own style) with that as I just copy/paste the repetitions. And I think everyone else does that in those cases. I don't think we need a new resource just for that.

We do enforce that all that is in the lyrics, regardless of how many times repeated or written, must be in translations. The problem here is lyrics that have been updated while their translators are long away - as such, unable to correctly add the still missing repetitions (happens a lot).

If a verse is repeated twice, I usually add it like this:

(x2)
Line one goes here
line two goes here
line three goes here
line four goes here

But I get what you mean, I try to add the repeating lines when possible.

Yeah, I understand your point. This thing is not really that problematic at all, but I just saw it as something that would not harm and posted the suggestion here.

you can use . as a placeholder for a repeated line.

Прийшли до нашої землі
Брудні нікчемні москалі,
І ця земля могилою вам стане!

(x2)
.
.

This way the reader knows exactly how many lines are repeated.

And when you have verses 3 or more times can I write it as x (3)?

The point was that you can write that, but it could be harder to guess which lines are repeatable. You could write x3 underneath the lines, but who the hell will know: is only the last line repeatable or the whole verse? That was the point of this topic

Usually when a verse is repeated twice, I don't use any special marker, I just write the same verse twice as it's sung. I personally interpret the ×n marker as a way to repeat the whole stanza, but unfortunately on LT there is not consistency on this matter.

I also personally prefer square brackets. I use parentheses for backing vocals.

We could implement a rule to set a standard for everyone to follow, but in my opinion, as long as the translation is always consistent with the original, it's not too big a deal.

Hi,

This is a topic that has been bothering me a lot, and I have written about it many times before. I have discussed it with moderators and site administrators. As Anerneq said, there is no set of rules for lyrics on LT, but there are rules called 'Lyrics Rules' that you can see being followed on different sites (MusixMatch, Genius, etc.). For repeating lines, the rule is to 'rewrite every repeating line.' I am following my lyrics according to this rule because repeating lines can cause bigger problems for me. For example, even the chorus of a Turkish song can be changed. If I need to give an example:

[Chrous]
-a
-b
-a
-b

-a
-b
-a
-c

This is how it works, the writer changes the last line and if you shorten it, people directly duplicate the "[a-b]" line, where is the "c" line? Yes, this is not the only problem I have encountered, there can be a lot of other problems. I contacted to LT about this and a new rule (for lyrics edit) has been added recently to address this issue.

Citation :

Requests to edit lyrics should be for the following reasons: lyrics belong to another song, spelling mistakes, orthography mistakes, punctuation, missing lines/stanzas, removal of lines/stanzas that aren't sung in the song, removal of links/ads within lyrics, removal of anything that isn't the lyrics (ex: transliteration, translations, emojis, etc.). Lyrics will not be edited for aesthetic reasons (reformatting without a good reason). Unless the song needs to be reformatted (not divided properly), those requests will be disregarded.

This rule applies to song arrangements and ensures that all corrections made to your abbreviations are almost perfect. In the example I provided, the "c" line conforms to the "missing lines/stanzas" rule in this series and needs to be re-edited. I don't know what you will do from now on, but as Alma suggested, I recommend that you add each repeated line again; otherwise, you will have to edit the song again. Yes, when you add the entire lyrics of the song, no one can find an excuse, but when you add them incompletely and write the repeated lines under "repeat," problems can arise.
