We say "deja vu" in English too, usually spelled without accents. We're all talking about the same thing.
Or rather writing about the same thing. A Frenchman would not pronounce it "day jah voo" :D
We pronounce it, at least where I'm from, more or less how it's pronounced in the song.
That said, I'm bad at phonetics.
Don't mind me, I was just being cheeky :)
I'm not smart at all when it comes to french, it went over my head.
Wie es von rechter Seite unverholen tönt.
This line is one of the reasons why I requested a native speaker to translate this song. I think the literal translation is a bit off from what is meant here.
I wonder if "auftreffen" ("treffen auf"?) here means more like "affects" or "is related to."
"Schon werden Schwache jetzt als Sündenbock genannt" also sounded odd to me.
These three lines were the most challenging ones for me. Therefroe, I requested a proofreading.
@Questionfinder - I guess our German proficiency level is similar. I haven't noticed that the translation request is designated specifically to native speakers to translated this song.
I'm not fully fluent in German either, but I see a few things that might be worth a second glance here:
es von rechter Seite unverholen tönt -> "In this country, people have long got used to the unashamed hubbub/babel coming from the right" or something?
Wenn man...is es -> I think the general idea is "when you listen (to their rants), it is disgusting/revolting (to see) that nobody gives a damn"
literally "it makes you want to puke" (bon appétit). Not sure English can be that graphic :)
referred to as a scapegoat(s) -> rather "designated as scapegoats" (in the sense of "picked")
was daraus folgen kann -> "where that might lead" maybe? or "how it might end"?
das kennen wir doch schon -> "kennen" is "know" ("can" would be "können") -> we know that already
ist verdammt sie zu wiederholen -> "is doomed to repeat it"
Though it doesn't fully match the German, "He who doesn't understand history is doomed to repeat it" seems to be a popular English way of saying the same. The original says basically "remember" instead of "understand"
wer...wer...der -> he who (does this), he who (does that), he shall (be engulfed in the entrails of the earth)
Truth be said, that sounds a bit like a guy ranting at a street corner (but much less so in German :) )
I would be tempted to adapt is as "people who do this and that end up deep in trouble".
nicht klar kommt mit der Lethargie der Zeit -> apparently this notion of "lethargy of the times" is popular in English too.
mit etw klarkommen would rather be "accept" (come to terms with). "abide" sounds nice to me, but that might be my twisted French taste.
"people who don't abide the lethargy of times, open their mouths and shout against it are rewarded with (a host of not very nice things)" is how I would put it
"Maul" is rather rude, maybe "flap their gums" instead of "open their mouths"?
in guter alter Tradition -> that's heavily ironic: "the good old-fashionned way" or something like that (in the good old [Nazi] tradition, basically)
