(Chto ty Imela)

I recently found this song and was like "Why was it until now this song is in my life? Should've been here sooner." So upbeat, but like everything else from Don't Park Cars I'm 99% certain it is going to be pessimistic and satirical or with a serious message.

What You Did

We met up with you late in the spring.
Already by the next day you led me home.
You told me to “Sit”, told me to “get up”,
Then, probably, you got tired and laid on the couch.
I understand : it’s a sign. I catch on quickly,
But what isn’t clear : what were you thinking?
What you did? What were you thinking of?
What you did? What you…

I also don't quite really remember your face,
But we both bought two rings.
Playing the organs, everyone drank wine,
Your mum, for some reason, called me “Son”
I understand : it’s a sign. I catch on quickly,
But what isn’t clear : what were you thinking?

What you did? What were you thinking of?
What you did? What you…

When you thought I was asleep, but my darling I had seen
What kind of weird powder did you put into my soup?
Such a bizarre taste! My eyes start to fade to black…1
And you said : “Okay, see you in heaven.” 2
I understand : it’s a clue. I catch on quickly,
But what I don’t understand : what were you thinking?

What you did? What were you thinking of?
What you did? What you…

Even though I no longer live with you, the silence lasted much longer.
Everything is fine for me, perfect, better than ever. You know this guy has some psychological scarring after nearly being poisoned, you can tell by his overconfidence
I’m flying through the darkness, while you are stuck on Earth,
And don't rush to see me.
Well nothing, nothing, I’ll wait,
After all, I still need to know what you were thinking of.

What you did? What were you thinking of?
What you did? What you…

To me, music is a form of speech, and just like speech, music should be heard to all regardless of barriers in place. So by translating you're letting other people open up to a world that is alien to them, a world where many who listen to the Russian, German and French music I listen to, is not strange or weird because they do not understand what the singer is singing. By having translations music can share cultural and political ideas, or really just ideas, around without barrier, and allow for discussion over meaning and purpose instead of trivial pursuit.

Honestly I love this song for how upbeat the sound of the music is, but for how dark the lyrics are. But Don't Park Cars was like that, and honestly, as I said, I think my new favorite word in Russian is "О'кей!" in that over-exageratted American sounding voice that Andrey did. Just throw that into comments. "Hey man, my dog died." Yeah, fits perfectly with my social skills. Anyways, feel free to discuss what you think the song means, any improvements, or other discussions. On the topic of the title, the title and the main chorus is from the song's title in the Don't Park Car's album, which was spelled in English not Russian (similar to the Red Army Choir), and because I couldn't find the original in Russian, so I interpreted it. But if someone can make a good case to change the title to fit more to "What you were" I will.

Lol, it's sort of dark cause she poisoned him, but it's funny. Similar to Cher's Dark Lady in both that music is upbeat but subject is murder... Would you mind if I added my version?

Yeah I like it, it is different enough. You don't have to kill it. Gives people options
