Mick est tout seul - La clé des chants (ইংরেজী অনুবাদ)

ইংরেজী অনুবাদ

The key to the songs

We could go out for a moment,
and watch the people passing by.
But we let ourselves get shut in.
We always forget to dream.

And yet, nothing is more important.
Often, time is money
that death takes back from us.

We could really have some fun
and make ourselves believe we’re angels.
We could get drunk all the time
to rediscover the key to the songs.

It makes the children laugh
to see our impatience.

We could sit down more often
and watch the wind blow.
But we do everything backwards
Sufficient for the day is its own war. 1

So, we try to be strong.
Outside, everything is multi-coloured.
But men devour each other.

We could really have some fun
and make ourselves believe we’re angels.
We could get drunk all the time
to rediscover the key to the songs.

It makes the children laugh
to see our impatience.

Note that "La clé des *champs*" is an expression indicating freedom - the key to the fields, the wide open spaces. However here the word is "chants" - songs. So implies finding the key to our voices, our happiness maybe?

Also note that "chants" and "champs" are homonyms in French.

That's a nice song, with another great vid to boot. The kind of Mickey I like Regular smile

on se laisse enfermer -> I would have expected a verb there, like "we let ourselves get shut in", but I suppose that's just my English?

retrouver -> more like "get back", I think. Something we lost in the first place.

à chaque jour suffit sa guerre -> the hijacked saying is "à chaque jour suffit sa peine" (from the bible "sufficient for the day is its own trouble")

tout est multicolore -> I suppose that alludes to multiculturalism

It's good isn't it? This album is just as good as anything under the Mickey 3d name. Regular smile

Thanks - wasn't sure if 'laisser' was of the 'leave' or 'allow' variety there. That makes more sense.

Yep. I found the expression - I think what I have is the same meaning (or close). But maybe needs rethinking. I suppose it would be appropriate to use the biblical expression from the English really. But "Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof" is maybe a bit much! Regular smile

Yep - I thought probably multiculturalism. Although I guess it could just also mean bright and colourful rather than the drab indoors.

Yep, a catchy tune and a nice feeling. Really good.

I agree "multicolore" can have that interpretation too, but the next line made me think of the other possibility.

Trouver/retrouver seem to be bandied about quite loosely (to an observer at least). We don't really have a re-find in English but I guess 'rediscover' is a better fit here. To find again something we had lost.

Sufficient for the day is its own trouble -> no war in sight, some footnote bug apparently Regular smile

Oops - missing close tag. Ta! Regular smile

Still it's about war this time Teeth smile

Now seriously, the French meaning is a bit different. "peine" is rather understood as "toil".
The expression is used when you consider you've done enough work for the day.

Ah yes, switched it back to "war" now.
Right that makes more sense - I think the English "Evils" of the day can be interpreted the same way. Or at least encompass 'toil' - as well as any other number of troubles.

I guess a modern English similar expression would be "One day at a time" or "Each day has enough trouble/toil of its own" - but they don't take 'war' so easily.
