Ein ven som aldri sviker (ইংরেজী অনুবাদ)

Ein ven som aldri sviker

Eg veit i vesterveg ein borg,
ho står i soli klåre.
Der preikes det om synd og sorg,
om helvete og tåre.
Eg er ein fattig ferdamann
må mine vegar fara
herfrå og til mitt fedreland
Staut, meg på vegen vara
I strid går Odins eigen son
han skal forsvare æra
Det er hans trøyst og trygge von
i svinefylking vera
Han med sitt blod deg dyrt har løyst
den gylne hall han treda
Sitt land han elska aller høgst
valkyrier han vil gleda
Så hjelp oss no, mot Kvitekrist
vårt blod for deg har runne
Vår beiske død har sant og visst
oss mange krigar vunne
Når verdi all som drivesand
med gull og gleda viker
då stend eg ved di høgre hand
ein ven som aldri sviker

A friend who never betrays

I know a castle to the west
shining as bright as the sun;
It preaches of sin and sorrow,
of hell and tears.
I am a weary traveller
may my path lead me
from here and to my motherland
Stoutness,protect me on my way.
To battle goes Odin's own son
he shall defend the honour
Its his comfort and safe hope
in the 'Swine Array'* world
He with his blood have unraveled you costly
the golden hall he made
His land he loves the most
he will please the valkyries*
So help us now, against Whitechrist*
Our blood have flown for you
Our agonizing deaths have truly and certain
won us many wars
Now all wealth disappear like drifting sand
gold and joy departs
then I stand by your right hand
a friend who never betrays.

The Svinfylking, 'Swine Array' or 'Boar Snout', was a version of the wedge formation used in Iron Age Scandinavia then by the Vikings, and by the Germanic peoples during the Germanic Iron Age where it was known as the "Schweinskopf" or 'Swine's Head'.Its invention was attributed to the god Odin.

In Norse mythology, a valkyrie is one of a host of female figures who choose those who may die in battle and those who may live. The valkyries bring their chosen to the afterlife hall of the slain, Valhalla.

"Kvitekrist" is an old norwegian name for Christianity, directly translates to white christ. In a time where the colour white was linked to purity, it was meant to separate the christian faith from the supposedly evil teachings of norse mythology.

The song is a satire of "I Know A Castle In Heaven (Eg veit i himmerik ei borg)"
Which in turn is based on the Norwegian translation of the original german hymn «Ich weiss ein ewiges Himmelreich» and the danish translation.
