I found this song and it sounds familiar but I can't think of a title or an artist:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNzLptWv_EE

Can someone provide a title or even the singer's name?

In the comments, some people state that the singer is a "Z.S. Mihaylova" (З. С. Михайлова), but I couldn't trace her yet.

Hi, Ellen,

The title is "Сарэ патря" ( A Dark Night)
The singer's name is Lialia Chiornaya - the most famous Gypsy performer ever.

Ай, да сарэ́ ёнэ́ патря́,
Да сарэ́ ёнэ́ нэвэ́.
Сарэ́ го́жо ё чяя́
Па́лэ ром ёнэ́ ли да гэнэ́.

If you post it for transcription I'll find the lyrics (her version is out of the mainstream lyrics) The Gypsy Theatre "Romen", somewhere late 40-s

Difficult to make them out. But looks like it's not Lyalya. Each of them sings one song and Lyalya performs this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-eyFdu2RT4. Besides, her voice is lower.

Anyway, Ellen. Why don't you enter the song as Gypsy Folk to compromise on the singer's name Regular smile

[@sandring] Added a transcription request: https://lyricstranslate.com/en/russian-gypsy-folk-%D1%81%D0%B0%D1%80%D1%...

Apparently we have a "Russian Gypsy Folk" page already: https://lyricstranslate.com/en/russian-gypsy-folk-lyrics.html

[@Alexander Frei] And I've already heard that song, but could use more recommendations.

Ellen, we have a problem. The second couplet she sings is totally unknown. I've browsed all the possible Gypsy songs editions. I've entered the words I hear. A total miss.

This song is well known but the second couplet is different. It's the first time I've heard a new version. Romani is very much like Hindi. I can even understand a few words.

There are two options. We can post the traditional version, it's everywhere in the net and I know it anyway without any source. But then we'll have to change the video. Or you can give me 5 days to sort it out with the dictionaries. I do find this performance to be the most authentic so it's a shame to lose it.

Any ideas?

Btw: the singer's name is Galina Chuchunevskaya.

Someone submitted it here: https://lyricstranslate.com/en/russian-gypsy-folk-%D1%81%D0%B0%D1%80%D1%...

Does this include the second couplet? Also thank you for the artist's name.

Ellen, that's what I've been talking about. That's the tradition version you can hear everywhere. She sings only the first and partly the third couplet. So we either delete this transcription as faulty, or we change the video. The version she sings is unique, that may be LT's contribution to the Gypsy culture. We can always go back to the traditional lyrics but we'll lose this outstanding performance. So let me know if I should go on searching.

Then please keep searching, I'll try and help out to as best as I can. It seems this video is the only one up online, I'm going to save it just in case it gets deleted or something. Thank you for helping me out. What I will do is change the video to something that covers those lyrics and enter a new transcription for the one in the video. Where can I find a video of the traditional version?

Ellen, I've made out two lines already. I'll post the video with the traditional version and you'll be able to post another request.

In fact, I've found another video with Nina Demetr (who's 101 now) performing the same version as Galina's. When you get both versions translated you'll see where the difference is. It dawned on me that the traditional version is originally for male performers. (I'll explain that in the notes under the English translation) while the present one is for females though both are performed by females now.
