Hello,

First off, some or more of you might label this as self promotion or something like that, and I apologize for that impression; I really don't know what else to do.

Felicity and I are trying to start a YouTube channel called Voices of Bulgaria; the purpose of our channel, in a nut-shell, is to provide accurate and easy-to-read subtitles for Bulgarian music videos, interviews, and live performances. I had done three videos to get started, one 'fully done' with opening and ending credits, two without(I like to finish the subtitles first, watch it to see if I timed it correctly, then add the credits after). I wasn't sure how to start, if I should contact certain music labels for permission first or if I should upload a video to see what happens. I chose the second option, and uploaded my one fully prepared video for Safari by Rayna. Not to my surprise, Payner had a copyright claim put in place and the video was immediately blocked worldwide. As I have made kpop/jpop fan videos for years, this is not a new process to me. So, perhaps ill-advised by myself/an improper reaction, I submitted a dispute citing 'fair use' and I claimed that the video was for educational purposes, which in my heart I fully believe; I want people to experience Bulgaria and be exposed to a new culture. I knew nothing about Bulgaria before I found out who Azis was, so for me, music is one of the biggest gateways into a new world/cultural experience. Bulgaria has given my heart so much love, and this may sound silly, but this is the best way I can think of to at least start paying back what the country has given me, as a stranger.

I didn't pick 'Safari' as the first video to subtitle for any special reason other than I really liked the song, and I needed to play around a bit and decide on what our format would be. At first, when I submitted my dispute, I was very surprised that the video was still showing as blocked worldwide; the normal procedure is that while the dispute is active, the video is then unblocked and made public until the claimant responds. I checked on the dispute status about two or three days into the dispute, and saw that it finally had been made public. I then posted the video on Facebook, asking my closest friends to please watch it, and if they liked it, to either like the video or subscribe to Voices of Bulgaria, and my reasoning for asking that of them is very simple. My mindset may not be a normal one, and I apologize for any confusion this may bring. I feel that because Payner is such a big company that has already started rolling out CC English translations on some of their newer videos, regardless of accuracy on said translations or timing, that they may not see the point in allowing us to subtitle work by their artists. So, I thought that if I could get enough people to at least watch the video within the remaining 26 days or so that Payner has to respond, maybe it would somehow/somewhat prove to them that we have a legitimate reason to do what we are doing.

I don't often believe in myself or my ideas, but I feel very passionate about this one, and I will feel incredibly disappointed if I receive no permission from any company to do so. While the dispute was started, I saw that Virginia Records had a Licensing Inquiry form on their website, and it seemed like they were very open to the possibility of letting people use their material for certain things. I couldn't get the form to work, as it asks for a security code at the end but there is no code anywhere on the screen or even a place to enter one. So, I sent them an email explaining what we intend to do and why, and if we could get permission from them. I emailed them about three days ago, and have not yet heard back.

If you all do not mind, I would like to ask you the same thing(those of you who like Bulgarian music or do not yet know much of it perhaps). If you are interested, please take a look at the video, and give me your honest feedback; if the format is okay, if anything needs to be changed. Our one kind of 'unique' thing I guess is that we want our subtitles to be easy to read. My mother is 54 years old, and she's very interested in Bulgaria and its music, but she has a lot of trouble reading the smaller CC subtitles, and she always says she wants to know what the song is about; having bigger subtitles seemed to help a lot, as I had her watch the video as well. She told me she didn't think they distracted from the video, and a friend of hers said the same thing. So I would like feedback from as many people as I can while the dispute is still active, and go from there.

Once again, I'm sorry for kinda promoting myself but I didn't know where else to make this kind of post; I didn't know what other website would be good to go to. If this post violates any sort of rules, I will accept the punishment and I will not do this again. Thank you all for your time in listening to me, I really do appreciate it very much.

Sorry to may be burst your bubble, but my contact with YouTube's copyright system got my account blocked on the account on three copyright strikes. It weren’t with Payner though, but still a Bulgarian label.
I was doing something similar: providing subtitles for music videos, but not burnt in, like yours are, but regular YT subtitles that users can switch on or off and choose the language of. The videos were not always in Bulgarian, but still performed by Bulgarian children (Slavi’s Show and its Meet the Kids section, now defunct) and I have tried to have, although not always managed it, three languages available for subtitles: Bulgarian, English, and Russian (the first two are obvious, the third one is my first language), with some of my translations being even singable. And it all was to no avail, the bTV’s copyright manager blocked in three strikes in quick succession some of my videos on the ground of copyright infringement and so my account was blocked and I was left with no room to maneuver.
I just hope that maybe your experience will be better than mine.

I'm sorry, I don't know enough Bulgarian to understand your comment. I am trying to find someone to translate it(Google was not helpful).

Sorry, I thought you are a native Bulgarian speaker, anyways, here:

Hello.

If you have the wish to advertise, we have a lot of Bulgarian Facebook music groups. Despite of that, you do not violate any of our rules at here. We do not interdict advertisement but it is therefore recommended that you inform somebody from the website staff, so that they are aware of it.

I personally am not fond of Bulgarian music, as for all I do is to solely listen to Metal music, but I wish you good luck in your endeavours.

Greetings,
George Vassilev

Thank you so much for translating this; my Bulgarian language skills are not that great yet. I would love to check out your groups, please private message me those links. Thank you very much for your kindness and support.
