The lion from the North

(Speaker)

November, early morning
Where someone stand waiting
where someone stand in the fog
Hear this message
Hear how the silence is forced to give way
In the light from torches, movement is born
Life is born
People are waiting
And wish for the wait to be over soon
A lot of senses can already feel it
The smell of gunpowder set on fire

Watch how the mist lifts
And make room for the day

Among thousands of men
One is seen most clearly
He steps forward
He gets on his horse
The hazel brown stallion Streiff
He rides along lines of men
He greets them

He was called the great
Gustav Adolf was his name
A lion from the north
And war was in his harbor

(Song starts)

This is a somber morning
The wait quietly prays
Watch mist, how it lifts
Hear words from the people

The rough shoe moves forward
Steps heavily in damp soil
Watch the ground turn into mud
Here, seeds of blood in expected

Walk slowly across the fields
Because forefathers have been laid to rest here
The sons of the people sleep here
Those who died and bullets flew through the air
Led by a lion
Many men went to war
When the day passed away into darkness
Sorrow came to the winner

Walk slowly across the fields
Because forefathers have been laid to rest here
The sons of the people sleep here
Those who died and bullets flew through the air

Out of the mist they could see
Streiff the stallion with his saddle, tired
Guns went off
One drew blood

Death is now in the air
Death is all over this place
If death has come to the king
Oh the wind is cold

Walk slowly across the fields
Because forefathers have been laid to rest here
The sons of the people sleep here
Those who died and bullets flew through the air
Led by a lion
Many men went to war
When the day passed away into darkness
Sorrow came to the winner

Walk slowly across the fields
Because forefathers have been laid to rest here
The sons of the people sleep here
Those who died and bullets flew through the air

Walk slowly across the fields
Because forefathers have been laid to rest here
The sons of the people sleep here
Those who died and bullets flew through the air
Led by a lion
Many men went to war
When the day passed away into darkness
Sorrow came to the winner

Walk slowly across the fields
Because forefathers have been laid to rest here
The sons of the people sleep here
Those who died and bullets flew through the air

This song has quite old language, a lot of the words are in a different order than they'd be in a normal conversation and many words are not commonly used. I've made it easier to understand in some places

Nice translation. Just one question I have: you translated "Så var i krig hans hamn" as "And war was in his harbor". Wouldn't it be more like "In war was his harbor", harbor used here maybe as "safe place", "somewhere I feel sure"? (Rephrased it could be "Så hans hamn var i krig"). Cheers Regular smile

Translating these songs is a bit of a balancing act because I want to keep the feeling of the song but still make it so people can understand it because they are not written the way people actually talk. A more literal translation is 'In war was his harbor' like you said
