I love the translation (although I’m not sure I agree with his characterization of Egypt. Maybe things were different in the early 20th century...)
I'm Going Crazy, I wish that...
- 1. Which is something done with a specific motion in Egypt to convey anger, disbelief or so.
Hamza Namira performed an updated Arabic/English version of the song on Remix Season 3 |
(Ya Salat ez-Zein) |
(Helwin min yomna wallah) |
It's a bit harsh on Egypt for sure but it's a bit overdramatized to shock the audience, in my opinion at least. The things he talks about did/do exist in the poorer areas of Egypt, and the Middle Eastern countries, but they are by no means the norm of course. Glad you liked the translation :)
Cheers
Do you happen to recognize the female singer in this version?
The recording is from ART around 2009.
Thanks!
Hey there, I believe she is from "The Arab Music Orchestra/Group" (فرقة الموسيقي العربية) which is a group that covers folk Arabic music in general. I don't think she's particularly any famous since they changed members throughout the years and generally have many singers.
Thank you. That makes sense and explains a lot!
No problem, anytime :)

Additional lyrics from other versions:
