Blink and it's gone
We blink and the moment's gone,
too fast to be engraved in our minds.
With a single finger we trace the faint markings,
a trail it left behind when it went away;
like an electrical shock we relive the moment,
finally burying it deep, hollowed out and carved.
And when we grow old and we begin to forget,
we set it alight and watch it burn for miles away.
Once it burns it turns to ashes and is no more,
in the night we go and die with the memory.
So if you see it burning in the distance
and you hear it calling in the darkness;
it's a new memory engraved into the earth,
so that none may forget that it ever existed.

Le temps d'un clin d'oeil, le moment n'est plus,
trop rapide pour laisser une trace dans nos esprits
D'un seul doigt nous suivons la marque ténue
La trace qu'il a laissée en partant ;
nous revivons ce moment comme un choc électrique,
pour finalement l'enterrer profondément, creusé et découpé.
Et comme en vieillissant nous commençons à oublier,
nous le rallumons et le regardons brûler sur des kilomètres.
Une fois brûlé il se transforme en cendres et disparaît,
nous partons dans la nuit et mourons avec le souvenir.
Alors si tu le vois brûler tout au loin
et que tu l'entends t'appeler dans le noir,
c'est un nouveau souvenir qui vient d'être enterré,
pour que personne n'oublie qu'il a existé.
