Boote in der Nacht

[Franz Joseph:]
Du weißt, warum ich gekommen bin.

[Elisabeth:]
Nein. Aber ich ahne es.

[Franz Joseph:]
Komm heim, Sisi.

Doch was uns treibt, liegt nicht in unsrer Macht.

[Franz Joseph:]
Du möchtest alles,
doch manchmal ist wenig schon sehr viel.

[Elisabeth:]
Dein Traum ist mir zu klein!

[Franz Joseph:]
Sich nah zu sein im Dunkeln,
genügt das nicht als Ziel?

[Elisabeth:]
Ich will nicht dein Schatten sein!

[Elisabeth & Franz Joseph:]

Boats in the night

[Franz Joseph:]
You know why I came.

[Elisabeth:]
No. But I'm guessing that.

[Franz Joseph:]
Come home, Sisi.
We belong to each other.
I still believe it.
I love you.
And love, they say, can heal all wounds.

[Elisabeth:]
Love can do a lot
but sometimes love is not enough.
Faith is strong
but sometimes faith is a self-deception.
We wanted miracles,
but they didn't happen.
The time will come when we will eventually admit that
we are like two boats in the night.
Everybody has their own goal
and their own load.
We cross each other on the sea
and then the farewell gets difficult for us.
But what floats us, isn't our power.

[Franz Joseph:]
You wanted everything
but sometimes less is much more.

[Elisabeth:]
Your dream is too small for me!

[Franz Joseph:]
To be close in the dark,
isn't that enough to be a dream?

[Elisabeth:]
I don't want to be your shadow!

[Elisabeth & Franz Joseph:]
Couldn't you just once look through my eyes?
Then you wouldn't misunderstand me anymore...
We are like two boats in the dark.
Everybody has their own goal
and their own load.
We cross each other on the sea
and the farewell often gets difficult for us.
Why is the happiness so hard for us?

[Elisabeth:]
You and I, we are two boats in the night.

[Franz Joseph (simultaneously):]
Understand me... I need you...
I love you... Can't you be with me?

[Elisabeth:]
Everybody has their own goal and load.

[Franz Joseph (simultaneously):]
Understand me... I need you...
I love you... Why are we lonely?

[Elisabeth & Franz Joseph:]
We cross each other on the sea
and we're lonelier than before...
Why is the happiness so hard for us?

[Franz Joseph:]
I love you!

[Elisabeth:]
Comprehend it: What cannot be, cannot be.

Thank you! I noticed one line was incomplete (Ich lieb dich... Warum sind wir allein?) so I fixed that in the original lyrics.

OK. I also fixed that line as written in the original lyrics. You're welcome.
