I can't really see much to improve here - it's a smooth job.
Maybe just:
Every night he would use another name (he would use another name)
The 'would's feel a bit clunky - I'd just say "Every night he used..he used..." sounds fine. But you could have "he'd use" if you wanted to echo the imparfait in the French. Not really necessary though.
