This song is actually not in Ukrainian - speaking 3 Slavic languages Ukrainian included I can understand about half of the text but not all. I found info on DakhaBrakha forums that it's in Bulgarian - maybe some Bulgarians can help you :)
Bitte hilf mit, „Yelena“ zu übersetzen
Yelena
Yes, it looks like broken dialectical Bulgarian.
Interesting. I`m not proficient in Ukrainian but I could tell that something was a bit off. Thanks a lot for the effort though!
That's definitely in Bulgarian.
Certainly, it is not Bulgarian, even though it could be some kind of a dialect. But here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DakhaBrakha it says that this is a Ukrainian folk quartet. As for the dialect I can't tell which one it is.
Anyway, bulgarian (broken, outdated, dialectic) is the best candidate. Probably that is a language of Ukrainian bulgarians of some isolated region, that was mixed with some local dialect centuries ago. But this is much more like Bulgarian than Ukrainian.
Also as a side note: when listening to the video, I can hear words only from the first two stanzas repeated many times intermixed with some sounds. Am I the only one who hears so?
No, you are not. And even here http://www.dakhabrakha.com.ua/en/music/dakhabrakha-i-port-mone-khmeleva-... it has the same words.
Then I wonder where the words in the request came from. Or to be more precise, where the linked site got them from.
BTW, I've found another bulgarian song in that album: Dyado. https://lyricstranslate.com/uk/dyado-old-man.html
And I am sure that is bulgarian, because for some reason I can understand this, though it is definitely not Ukrainian or Russian.
And here is some more information after short investigation :) This song Yelena was adapted from a Bulgarina folk song Begala e Vena - Vena was runningscurrying (lit. translation, Vena is a female name). https://video.slavishow.com/video/1524674272/pkAEY7IkIMSO3lsUq3gD0A/2016...
- the song performed in Bulgarian. So, some Bulgarian words are used indeed, others probably are of Ukranian origin, and in my opinion there are some words just for the rhyme. Example - ВЭНО ЛЕ that is used from the Bulgarian original. Probably in order to be translated someone who speaks Ukranian and Bulgarian as well might do this, or someone to start it and with comments others to give suggestions.
The problem is.. there are NO ukrainian words here ;) :D
I am sure, that is a very distorted text, which was written by a person, who doesn't know bulgarian, then it was sung by non-bulgarians, and then re-written again, by ear, by some third person, who also doesn't know bulgarian. Well, seems like now we see a result of a classical "broken phone" ;)
Yep, I'm almost sure that
Пасего сетила,вено ле
Пасего вернала,вено ле
was actually something like
Пък си го сетила, Вено ле
Пък си го върнала, Вено ле
Here - https://vk.com/topic-42012884_27450993?offset=360
I found the lyrics. Whether these are the original can`t tell, but this was the only source I could find:
Speaking no Ukranian I can't even argue. Obviously, it is a kind of a Slavic hodgepodge with some Bulgarian flavouring.
But I can understand the common meaning, and I am sure, that you can do it as well ;)
