Mne rebyata skazali (Мне ребята сказали)

The lads told me

Versionen : #1#2
The lads told me about a t a t t o o !
On the periphery, where there are no laterns yet,
If successful - I am well provided for long, -
Provided for myself and the best friends.

But at twelve o'clock people want to sleep
The next day they get up to work, -
I don't want to disturb them - I don't go stealing, -
I don't desire interrupting their sleeps!

The lads told me, that an artist is living there,
That she has diamonds, golden things, dough, -
And that everything will be quiet, without the least of risks, -
Now afterwards, of course, we shall scram at running space.

But at twelve o'clock people want to sleep,
But the artist gets up to work, -
I don't want to disturb her - I don't go stealing,
I don't desire interrupting her sleep!

Friend Mishka told me, that she has a savings account, -
That cannot be possible, not possible - our artist is not rich!
"But with her is a lieutenant colonel, he is indeed her lover!"
With this argument Mishka, the rascal, convinced me.

And at twelve o'clock people want to sleep -
The next morning they get up to work ...
It doen't matter, not to sleep! - I go - myself, I am not happy:
I don't desire interrupting their sleeps!

I told the lads that she is not rich:
The diamonds are imitations, the lieutenant colonel ran away.
Now this artist - of almost threehundred years, -
I shall not forgive myself my whole life that I disturbed her sleep!

Yet at twelve o'clock people want to sleep -
They get up the next day to work,
I don't want to disturb them - I don't go stealing,
I don't desire interrupting their sleeps!

Alexander Laskavtsev    Do, 14/06/2018 - 09:14

Wink smile

Elisabeth33    Fr, 15/06/2018 - 09:04

Please write to me in English or German, that would be easier for me. But I thank you very much all the same for your information. I shall try to work on it. I am always very thankful for comments and recomandations and I am happy if one reads my translation with or without a thank you.

Elisabeth33    Mi, 20/06/2018 - 10:13

I don't know where you found "дудям" and it is "опечатки" а не "очепятки"! But thank you all the same!

Sophia_    Mi, 20/06/2018 - 10:40

There was a typo: "дюдям" instead of "людям".

Alexander Laskavtsev    Mi, 20/06/2018 - 11:12

For some odd reason I was thinking that you are a russian speaker (apparently one of the reasons is that you didn't mention your languages in profile) Regular smile That's why I was joking, indeed. And all the typos were corrected by me (you can see this in the author's information under the original.)

Elisabeth33    So, 24/06/2018 - 09:07

Thank you very much for the interest you take in my translations. It is true I am not a Russian speaker, though I try very hard to understand and translate Russian, I like this language!

Igeethecat    So, 24/06/2018 - 10:06

Наколка - tattoo, I am not sure why it’s ‘a coup’ in your translation? - UPD - it’s not tattoo here, but still, ‘coup’ doesn’t work here

It doen't matter, not to sleep! - I go - myself, I am not happy: —> Typo and ‘not to sleep’ - it’s about people who will need to get up for work next morning Regular smile

Sophia_    So, 24/06/2018 - 09:34

Igeethecat    So, 24/06/2018 - 09:43

Oh, I see, so it’s a criminal slang, something like ‘they gave me a tip’, got it, thanks

Kashtanka1965    So, 24/06/2018 - 09:48

They gave me a tip. That what I would use and it exactly what it means and it's not a slang. Coup doesn't suit in that case.

Kashtanka1965    So, 24/06/2018 - 10:50

You are right it was never a slang in Odessa, but you're missing the point. To give a tip is not a slang. I can give a tip which horse might win in the races.
There are so many tips I can give you. I can tip a waiter in the restaurant, but it's all together something else.

Igeethecat    So, 24/06/2018 - 10:54

I’ve never said ‘tip’ is a slang Regular smile ‘наколка’ is, for the rest of the population Regular smile

Ove Eriksson    So, 24/06/2018 - 11:14

You can always give somebody a hint if you have an idea (or a clue) Wink smile

Ove Eriksson    So, 24/06/2018 - 13:30

Thank you for sharing your wisdom! Regular smile Please try and understand that Russian is a foreign language to me as well as English. So, translating from one into the other is extremely hard for my self, especially since my Russian has become a bit "rusty" over the last 3 decades. Cheers, Ove

Igeethecat    So, 24/06/2018 - 13:35

We understand and we never criticize :). Just giving friendly advices:) I personally admire you, guys, for taking an interest in Russian language - this is not an easy one Regular smile

Ove Eriksson    So, 24/06/2018 - 13:48

Thank you! Well, you may criticize me because I always understand critcism as something positive as long as it helps some-one to improve her/his skills. Would you be so kind and read my translations to a few songs by Аркона? Those took a lot of hard work, several hours of looking for the right words thoroughly. I'd be very grateful if you could take the time to read them, and give me some advice if necessary. Regular smile
