The Flying Child

I followed the flying child
Above the dancefloor
For her, no school
No shoes
When the leaves are falling
The horse stops
And the dwarf, sad
Heats up the circus ring

I followed the flying child
Who arches her back
Up in the straitjacket
The satin vest
When the morning is coming
She leaves the circus ring
The dwarf, sad
Takes her away

I followed the gliding child
Above faces
Dreamed of her smooth belly
Like a shellfish
When the morning is coming
She leaves the circus ring
The dwarf, sad
Takes her away

Thanks for the nice translation of this beautiful poem!
I would suggest you avoid "dance floor" for what is clearly here a circus (or sawdust) ring.
Also, in the 4 lines ending stanzas 2 and 3 'Quand le matin vient, Qu’elle quitte la piste, Que le nain, triste L’emmène', there is no underlying meaning similar to the English 'May..'. The term 'Que' in the present case is simply a reminder of "Quand", which Manset did not want to repeat.
