Hello,

1.) I'm always having a trouble when this word appears on lyrics. ときめき
At this moment, I refer this page, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokimeki_Memorial
And, this page says, ときめきメモリアル = "Heartbeat Memorial"
So, I use "Heartbeat" whenever ときめき ときめく appears on lyrics.
Am I doing okay? If there's better word, I want to know.

2.) I also think 青春 is difficult word to translate.
Everyone says "Youth" is the word for it. But I often think it sounds not right.
I don't think "youth" is suited to this phrase, "Hold me tight あんたあたしのたったひとつの青春やった" (Osaka Bay Blues)

3.) And I think not many people can translate this phrase beautifully.
"もし君に1つだけ 強がりを言えるのなら もう恋なんてしないなんて 言わないよ 絶対"
"強がり" this word is hard to translate. Often "bluff" is not right word for it.

If you think you have better suggestion for number 1) to 3) , please let me know. That will help me a lot. (especially no.3)

Thank you very much. :)

もし君に1つだけ 強がりを言えるのなら
If I could say, just one thing to you, to make you think I was strong
もう恋なんてしないなんて 言わないよ 絶対
You can bet that it'll never be, that "I'll never fall in love with you again"

maybe maybe not

Ah, thank you for comment. I appreciate.

actually, this phrase is from Makihara Noriyuki and he has separated from ex-girl friend ( or boy friend? mmm)
He wants to say that he "will" fall in love again "with someone else".

But, thank you for good answer. I appreciate very much.

actually, "If I could say, just one thing to you, to make you think I was strong" is much better than using the word "bluff". I like it. helps me alot.

flattenedpotato's translation sounds great for the most part, you can simply revise the last phrase to make it match the context that you just brought up:
もし君に1つだけ 強がりを言えるのなら
If I could say, just one thing to you, to make you think I was strong
もう恋なんてしないなんて 言わないよ 絶対
You can bet that it'll never be, that "I'll never fall in love again"

It makes perfect sense. What it conveys is "I won't say to you that I'll never fall in love again, because I certainly will"

As for the Osaka bay blues...

Hold me tight あんたあたしの
たったひとつの青春やった

The "hold me tight" is there just because it's "cool English", which becomes a bit of a nuisance in the translation. And sadly, there's no better translation for 青春 than "youth". In English it's not really common to compare it with the spring season. Even what we understand by spring and what the spring means in the Japanese culture may differ. Still though, generally people think of the youth as a period of time when people is energetic and lively, so it's not that bad.
I'd probably translate this as:
Hold me tight. You were the only one,
that made my youth full.

Or maybe this works:
Hold me tight. You were the only one,
who made my youth feel like spring.

As for "ときめき"...
It's definitely true that "heartbeat" is too simplified to convey the same thing than ときめき does. But I think context would be essential to choose the best wording. It's not fair to say something like "ときめき translates into X word" because this super rigid 1 to 1 translation system usually doesn't end up with a good result. Can you bring some lyrics where this word is used so that we can work from there?

Hello, thank you for your opinion. I agree with the most of the part.
OK. Here's some examples of ときめき from my translations.

1. 鮮やかな虹の世に心ときめかせ通り過ぎた日 (First Love by Kozo Murashita)
2. ねえ、青空よるも澄んだ ときめき捨ててしまうの? (From The Vision of Escaflowne)
3. いくつ淋しい季節が来ても ときめき抱しめていたい in my dream (From ZARD, 揺れる想い)
4. ときめきを運ぶよ Choo Choo TRAIN (From Choo Choo TRAIN)
5. 修羅場穴場女子浮遊ときめきのPARADI-DI-SSO☆PARADISE OF YOU (From SHULABA - LA - BAMBA)
6. ときめき、痛み、眠れぬ夜の過ごし方を初めて知った (From プライマル)
7. とめどなく語りかける揺れる鼓動は微熱混じりの溜息へとかわる (From 1/3の純情な感情)
(Note: 鼓動 is almost equal to ときめき)
8.鳴り止まぬ鼓動で勇み立て! (From Eden through the rough)
9.Tシャツは棄ててゆく ときめく海へと (From Route 134)
10. ときめきと云う 坂をのぼれば逢える (From 渋谷で5時)

もう恋なんてしないなんて 言わないよ 絶対
I'm not gonna say "I won't fall in love again".
or
I will never say things like "I won't fall in love again".

So
"もし君に1つだけ 強がりを言えるのなら もう恋なんてしないなんて 言わないよ 絶対"
If I could say, just one thing to you, to make you think I was strong, I will never say things like "I won't fall in love again".

One thing, I want you to know I am strong, I will never say things like "I won't fall in love again".

Too much free translation? Too much 意訳?

How about this one? Can you translate 強がり in this case?

強がりのFace タフなふりで踊り明かしても

Google translator says " A vain face".

11. ときめいた君を想って (From 陽だまり)

For this one, I didn't use "heartbeat". I translated this one as, "I was thrilled to think of you."
I used the word "thrilled" for this one.

Sorry for the late answer, I didn't open this forum in a while.

I think the sentences sound a bit unnatural, maybe you can make it like this:
If I could say, just one thing to you, to make you think I'm strong, it will never be "I won't fall in love again".

It's not too much 意訳, remember that you aren't translating words, you're translating ideas and feelings. That's what a proper translation does.

I think this would work
強がりのFace = A strong look

I lack context to properly translate the entire sentence

Hi, I just now remembered that I used the word "fluttering" for translation of "BOY MEETS GIRL" (TRF).
朝も昼も夜も風が南へと 心をときめかせている
Morning, noon, and night, the wind is blowing south, and my heart is fluttering.

Heartbeat is often translated as 鼓動 in machine translation. Flutter might sound better to describe ときめき.

Or, the word "excitement" sounds natural in English. But it depends on the case.
I think I did well for this one. :) https://lyricstranslate.com/en/happy-birthday-love-you-happy-birthday-lo...
胸をときめかせて with excitement in their heart.

Hi, this case is coming from City Hunter's song called "SARA". It start off with "強がりのface" and noting in front.
Please check this page. https://lyricstranslate.com/en/sara-sara.html-27

I tried the word "bravado". Is the word bravado not popular in English world?

I was about to use the word "stubborn" for it.

Hello, its ok you can comment any time :) That will be helpful for me and many other Japanese to English translators, I think.

Also, I will be very happy if you could tell me error or unnatural things in my translations.

Thank you in advance.

(This doesn't mean I'm too confident with all my translations. I'm nervous with them all the time. lol)

There's no English word to describe "強がり".

I usually end up using the word "boldness". But, 大胆さ and 強がり are different.

Is there any other better word?
