El Duende de la Alhambra de Granada

Dicen que vive en la Alhambra
Un duende que a todas horas,
Se pasea enamorado,
Buscando una reina mora.

Y cuando sale la Luna,
Escondido entre las sombras,
Por las calles de Granada,
A cada paso la nombra.

¿Dónde está la reina mora?
Que se fue una madrugada.
Porque se llevó con ella
La alegría de Granada.

¿Dónde está la reina mora?
Que ayer su amor me juraba.
Porque me dejó soñando
Sabiendo que yo la amaba.

Reina mora, reina mora,
Grita el duende por Granada.
¿Dónde están los ojos negros
Que me robaron el alma,
Que me robaron el alma?

Reina mora, reina mora,
Grita el duende por Granada.
¿Dónde están los ojos negros
Que me robaron el alma,
Que me robaron el alma?

Dicen que lleva en sus manos
El duende pa' enamorarla,
Un anillo de oro fino,
Y un ramo de flores blancas.

La busca por los jardines
Que perfuman a la Alhambra.
Cantando coplas de amores
Que salen de una guitarra.

¿Dónde está la reina mora?
Que se fue una madrugada.
Porque se llevó con ella
La alegría de Granada.

¿Dónde está la reina mora?
Que ayer su amor me juraba.
Porque me dejó soñando
Sabiendo que yo la amaba.

Reina mora, reina mora,
Grita el duende por Granada.
¿Dónde están los ojos negros
Que me robaron el alma,
Que me robaron el alma?

Reina mora, reina mora,
Grita el duende por Granada.
¿Dónde están los ojos negros
Que me robaron el alma,
Que me robaron el alma?

The Spirit of the Alhambra in Granada

Versionen : #1#2
It's said that he lives in the Alhambra
A spirit that, at all hours,
In love turns around
In search of a Moorish queen.

And when the moon rises,
Hidden in the shadows,
He calls her name every step of the way
Through the streets of Granada.

Where is the Moorish queen
Which left one early morning?
Because she took away with herself
All the joy of Granada.

Where is the Moorish queen
Which yesterday swore her love to me?
Because she left me with my dreams
In the certainty that I loved her.

Oh Queen, Queen of the Moors,
The spirit calls through Granada.
Where are the black eyes
That robbed my soul,
That robbed my soul?

Oh Queen, Queen of the Moors,
The spirit calls through Granada.
Where are the black eyes
That robbed my soul,
That robbed my soul?

It's said that, to show her his love,
The spirit wears a ring of fine gold
And in his hands
A bouquet of white flowers.

He searches for her in the gardens
That smell in the Alhambra,
Singing love verses
That come out of a guitar.

Where is the Moorish queen
Which left one early morning?
Because she took away with herself
All the joy of Granada.

Where is the Moorish queen
Which yesterday swore her love to me?
Because she left me with my dreams
In the certainty that I loved her.

Oh Queen, Queen of the Moors
The Spirit calls through Granada.
Where are the black eyes
That robbed my soul,
That robbed my soul?

Oh Queen, Queen of the Moors
The Spirit calls through Granada.
Where are the black eyes
That robbed my soul,
That robbed my soul?

Kommentare des Autors:

The Emirate of Granada was the last bastion of the Moors in 'Al Andalus'. On 2 January 1492, the last Moorish ruler, the Emir Boabdil, had to leave the Alhambra and to go into exile. This was the end of the Reconquista.

Thanks a lot Wolfgang for this translation.
I'm glad you are ok with my opinion, saying that the "blackberry queen" is a wrong translation of the word " Mora and that has no sense, in this text.
Also glad to see you know a part of Spanish History, its Moorish History which lasted for 8 Centuries and which influence is still visible in Andalusia nowadays.

Thank you, Isabel, for the stars and for your bilingual comment! I'm always happy to see someone sharing my interest in history! Especially this era in Spain's history between the conquest of the Visigoth kingdom and the last act in Granada is so fascinating.
Incidentally, it was only three years ago that I stood myself on top of the Alhambra, and I was deeply impressed (and at the same time compassionating with that unfortunate Boabdil...), even without having got to know the spirit sung here...
Regular smile

Thank you, Eagles Hunter.
As for the song about the famous Mezquita of Córdoba, I have added now a German translation. The text is not easy, and I'm not sure if I got it right in every respect.
An English request processing has already been started by a colleague.

Yes Wolfgang being on the top of the Sabika hill and having the view on Granada is very impressive and the visit of The Alhambra itself is too.
It took us almost 5 hours in April 2017 to visit this wonderful Moorish Palace and didn't see it completely !
I kept a nice "souvenir" of the town where the Moorish influence is tangible in several places.

I saw the text of the song "Cordoba es la Mezquita" I don't think I'm able to translate it in English...possibly in an other language soon.

Good night and translations.
