Hold me tight

Versionen : #1#2
No one knows why the day turns into night again
No one knows why the sun is still shining
No one knows why the chilly wind should still blow,
But I know that I love you.

And no one knows why stars fall down
And no one knows why death follows us
And no one knows why people sleep in the cold
But I know that I love you.

Chorus:
Hold me tight,
I lay my head on your shoulder tenderly
Hold me tight
Run your fingers gently through my hair
Hold me tight
Sometimes it all becomes just too much
And then all I want is to be with you.

And no one knows why luck sometimes flies away
And no one knows why a flower withers
And no one knows why you're the one I trust
But I know that I love you.

Chorus:
Hold me tight,
I lay my head on your shoulder tenderly
Hold me tight
Run your fingers gently through my hair
Hold me tight
Sometimes it all becomes just too much
And then all I want is to be with you.

Don't ask me anything,
Don't tell me anything
Wrap your arms around me,
Don't talk to me,
Hold me firmly tight
Words are just not enough
When I pour my heart to you
Don't talk to me,
Hold me firmly tight

Chorus:
Hold me tight,
I lay my head on your shoulder tenderly
Hold me tight
Run your fingers gently through my hair
Hold me tight
Sometimes it all becomes just too much
And then all I want is to be with you.

Like hold me fast, I've learned something new about Dutch today. I might have translated it that may but it really doesn't make very much difference.

Well, yes, but "hold me tight" is much more commonly used than "hold me fast", at least in this context. Right?

Yes Hold me tight is used more commonly although neither are very common phrases anymore it seems. There is a slight distinction between the two "hold me tight" is usually used in a particular instance and is often literal. For example a girlfriend might say to her boyfriend hold me tight on a roller coaster ride. "Hold me fast" usually more like a longer term mutual request and promise between individuals. It can be literal but it can also be used in the sense of two people not losing one another and being their for one another.

It's a very slight difference though. and they switch rarely among younger people. It's your translation I don't want to influence you but both are correct and it's ultimately a small difference. I was just glad to learn something new.

I think that in the context of the song (which tends to be a bit romantic) that hold me tight would be the appropriate translation.
