Alms of Love

I should have been shattered, slitting my wrists
When before the sighs of my song
My wild flesh was frozen, suspended in air
By words I'd never heard before.
.
Just thinking of it gives me chills.
How blind I was!
When your eyes spoke to mine, saying:

Give me Alms of Love, Dolores,
Give it for charity;
Place flowers on my Cross, Dolores,
You'll receive your reward from God.
.
Don't deny me, my rough girl, what I thirst for
Grant the Samaritan's mercy on my bitterness of life
.
Have you no pity for my tears, Dolores?
Have you no pity for me?
Give me Alms of Love, my Dolores
Give it before I die.

I don't need your worthless riches
Nor do I want your beggar's vows
It's enough, too much, your river of tears,
Seeing you eaten by pain and regret.
.
But you, in your life,
Could never, ever know
I was already in the same agony
Of wanting you too.

Give me Alms of Love, Dolores,
Give it for charity;

Give me Alms of Love, Dolores,
Give it for charity;

Thank you Buensabor for the translation of this classic copla. I'll read it and I will make comments with more time.
Thank you also for the video. I finally found one that worked, and we ended up with two. Can you tell me which one you like best? I'll delete the one I posted.

When I first tried the video you posted, Youtube gave me a page saying the video had been removed, that's the only reason I added a new one. But your link works now. Much more interaction with the audience in yours, but I am going deaf, and the excessive echoes make it harder for me to hear. Curiouser and curiouser.

As I said in the note above, this was a rush job. There are things I just did not have time to work with, such as the parallelism of the "serrana" of the first line and the "serrano" in the estribillo. Nor the word play of "Dolores" for "pains", for the male protagonist or Christ, especially in her placing flowers on the Cross. But I will probably be tweaking it for weeks. Thanks for checking it out.
