Boli rumdi muuuhhh
Haninn galaði gaggala gó,
Bóndi vinur vakna þú og ver þitt hænsnabú

Og bolinn varð mjög úrillur og bölvaði mjög hátt:
,,Bannsett læti eru þetta hér um miðja nátt.
Það verður strax að stöðva þetta villta hænugeim.
Nú vek ég hundinn svo ég fái svefnfrið fyrir þeim."

Hænurnar æptu gogg, gogg, gó.
Og vöktu með því kisu,
Kisa æpti mjá, mjá mjá,
Og vakti með því gæsina,
Gæsin gargaði bra, bra, bra,
Og vakti með því kúna,
Kýrin baulaði mö, mö, mö,
Og vakti með því bola,
Boli rumdi muuuhhh
Og vakti með því hundinn.
Hundurinn gelti voff, voff, voff,
Haninn galaði gaggala gó,
Bóndi vinur vakna þú og ver þitt hænsnabú

En nú vaknaði loksins bóndinn því að hundurinn gelti hátt
Og hljóp beint út með byssuna og náði minknum brátt.
Svo skaut hann minkinn ljóta og hljóp svo heim með hann
Og húsfreyjuna vakti og sagði: ,,Sjáðu hvað ég fann!"

Hænurnar æptu gogg, gogg, gó.
Og vöktu með því kisu,
Kisa æpti mjá, mjá mjá,
Og vakti með því gæsina,
Gæsin gargaði bra, bra, bra,
Og vakti með því kúna,
Kýrin baulaði mö, mö, mö,
Og vakti með því bola,
Boli rumdi muuuhhh
Og vakti með því hundinn.
Hundurinn gelti voff, voff, voff,
Og vakti með því bóndann.
Haninn galaði gaggala gó,
bóndinn sagði ha, ha, hæ
og bóndakonan hæ, hæ, hæ,
nú minkapels ég fæ.

The Mink in the Hen House

There was once a farmer who had a hen house
And a ewe and horse and cat and goose and also one cow.
But on one dark winter's night, they all slept soundly
When a fierce, black mink sneaked in there quietly.

The hens screamed bah-gawk 1
The rooster crowed cock-a-doodle-doo
Farmer, our friend, wake up
and protect your hen house

But the farmer slept and the rooster wept, poor thing
as he watched as the mink pursued his brood of hens.
But the little kitty cat who snuggled under the wall
Was quite startled and jolted awake when an egg fell on her head.

The hens screamed bah-gawk
And so they woke the kitty
The kitty screamed meow, meow, meow
The rooster crowed cock-a-doodle-doo
Farmer, our friend, wake up
and protect your hen house

But the farmer didn't wake up and the rooster had gone into a frenzy
The evil and ugly mink had eaten two of the hens.
Now he screeched for the farmer's help and in a hoarse voice, he yelled: Get up!
Then in the next hut over awoke an old, sleepy goose.

The hens screamed bah-gawk
And so they woke the kitty,
The kitty screamed meow, meow, meow
And so she woke the goose,
The goose cried honk, honk, honk
The rooster crowed cock-a-doodle-doo
Farmer, our friend, wake up
and protect your hen house

And the goose, who had a youngling,
didn't like the sound of the hens.
She feared the bad mink and wailed for a while,
And so she woke the cow up, who was taking her beauty sleep.

The hens screamed bah-gawk
And so they woke the kitty,
The kitty screamed meow, meow, meow
And so she woke the goose,
The goose cried honk, honk, honk
And so she woke the cow,
The cow bellowed moo, moo, moo
The rooster crowed cock-a-doodle-doo
Farmer, our friend, wake up
and protect your hen house

And the poor cow got scared hearing all that noise
From the hens, and tried to wake the bull, her husband.
But the bull said angrily and shook his horns:
"What's that damned noise, woman?"

The hens screamed bah-gawk
And so they woke the kitty,
The kitty screamed meow, meow, meow
And so she woke the goose,
The goose cried honk, honk, honk
And so she woke the cow,
The cow bellowed moo, moo, moo
And so she woke the bull,
The bull brayed moooohh
The rooster crowed cock-a-doodle-doo
Farmer, our friend, wake up
and protect your hen house

And the bull got quite grumpy and cursed very loudly:
"What accursed noise is this in the middle of the night.
We must stop this wild hen party immediately.
I'll wake the dog, so I can have peace to sleep."

The hens screamed bah-gawk
And so they woke the kitty,
The kitty screamed meow, meow, meow
And so she woke the goose,
The goose cried honk, honk, honk
And so she woke the cow,
The cow bellowed moo, moo, moo
And so she woke the bull,
The bull brayed moooohh
And so he woke the dog.
The dog barked woof, woof, woof,
The rooster crowed cock-a-doodle-doo
Farmer, our friend, wake up
and protect your hen house

Now finally the farmer woke up because the dog barked loudly
And he ran straight out with his gun and caught the mink quickly.
Then he shot that bad mink and then ran with it home
and woke the housewife and said: "Look what I just found!"

The hens screamed bah-gawk
And so they woke the kitty,
The kitty screamed meow, meow, meow
And so she woke the goose,
The goose cried honk, honk, honk
And so she woke the cow,
The cow bellowed moo, moo, moo
And so she woke the bull,
The bull brayed moooohh
And so he woke the dog.
The dog barked woof, woof, woof,
And so he woke the farmer.
The rooster crowed cock-a-doodle-doo
The farmer said Ha! ha! hey!
and the farmer's wife said Hurray!
Now I'll get a mink fur coat!
