(Englisch Übersetzung)

Proshchai, Nemytaya Rossiya |

I Say Goodbye To Funky Russia

Versionen : #1#2#3#4
I say goodbye to funky Russia,
The land of slaves and of their lords;
To the blue coats worn by pashas,
And to their subject true-blue folks.
The Caucasus may safely hide me
From your gendarmerie that peers,
From all their eyes, forever eyeing,
From their forever hearing ears.

It's an equirhythmic translation.
The 'pashas' actually stand in place of 'gendarmerie' in the original text, but I switched them for sake of rhyming. IMHO, it's not a great sin because the meanings are almost similar in both cases. Regular smile

Not much changed since Lermontov time, haa?
Pashas and gendarmes are still interchangeable

I'd never have thought of "funky", but that's right on the spot Regular smile
