Great translation, Elle, no issues at all, quite accurate. However, I found myself unable to sing it, i.e. playing the music and reading the translation, I can't make what's written match the rhythm of the piece. That is all. I know it can be darn hard to make English words stay true to the content, while fitting them to the Russian rhythm at the same time.

Mity, you are asking for an equirhythmic (and possibly rhyming) translation (E and R tags in the current classification). Writing ER translations is much more difficult and often impossible without distorting the original meaning. Most translations on LT are literal and are not intended to be sung. But you can join several of us in making this site better by writing ER translations or their lesser E, S, and SR cousins. Read FAQ 3.1.4 and look for translation tags. Cheers.

On top of that, the rhythm of this piece is fairly straightforward. So, if Elle requests I make my own translation of the same song which preserves both the meaning and the rhythm, i.e so it can be sung. I'll be happy to "show her how it's done" (I know it sounds terrible, but.....). I'll do it, hopefully without "destroying" English grammar, that is, without straying too far from widely accepted English norms of poetic expression (past and present, speaking from experience). And MIND you, I am talking about making a translation that can be sung to the rhythm of the original song, while preserving the meaning, NOT making English rhythm match that of the Russian lyrics word for word. That is near impossible. Just to be clear.

I know it's hard to match the rhythm. I realised that when I started taking it "more seriously", as can be seen from my latest "examples". Otherwise, one person here told me, what is the point? I can make a literal translation in under 5 minutes. But it will be no good for singing. But somehow, especially in my "latest efforts", I have been able to do it most of the time, i.e. English content matches Russian meaning (most of the time, no one's perfect) and you can sing the lyrics a-la karaoke style (with a bit of practice, of course).
