Unfortunately

I cut myself a wound
That decorates my body
I gently sprinkle it with salt
To make it even more beautiful
I continue onto my veins
Gently opening my skin
I savor kiss of my blade
That makes me a man

I hang myself on thin wires
I begged myself to do this
I hurt myself, so much 1
I hurt myself, so much

I'm not afraid of the bogeyman
Because I can kill myself [without him]

I have to
I have to hurt myself again
I'm hurting myself, so much
I have to hurt myself again
Because only suffering can heal me

I love my scar
And all of its glory
A lovely souvenir
I made for myself
I bite my tongue
And I suffer without a sound
I draw the old knife
Just once through my skin

But when I see myself in the mirror
It hurts my little heart so much
There is still some space on my skin
I have to do it again even though I dread it

I have to
I have to hurt myself again
I'm hurting myself, so much
I have to hurt myself again
Because only suffering stays with me
I have to
I have to hurt myself again
I hurt myself a bit
I have to hurt myself again
Because only suffering stays with me

  • 1. Ich tue mir Leid literally means "I do myself sorrow". This would usually be translated as "I am sorry for myself". (Es tut mir Leid means "it does me sorrow" but roughly translated means "I'm sorry about that"). However, since Leid means sorrow/pain, I would also consider this a double meaning, "I do myself harm" (or "I hurt myself"), as well as "I am so sorry for myself".
