Ninna nanna de Anton'Istene

Ninna nanna pitzinnu, ohi ninna nanna
ti leo in coa e canto a duru duru,
dormi pitzinnu dòrmiti seguru
ca su cane ligau tenzo in sa janna.

Si malos bisos faghes in su sonnu
tue no timas ne piangas mai,
cando t'ischidas, t'ischidet mamai
nèndeti contos de nonna e de nonnu.

Unu cadditu t'apo a comporare
cun sedda bella e ferros de oro;
si passas in Gaddura e Logudoro
totus ti depen invidiare.

Ti ponz'a coddu soga e fusile
e duos canes ti peso pro catza;
canes de Fonne, canes de arratza
pro ti fagher difesa in su cuile.

E poi ti regalo berbeches chentu
e una tanca totu fiorìa,
e una beste de pannu,
una beste de pannu colorida
e t'accumpanzo fintzas a Gennargentu…

E poi ti regalo una fortuna manna
pro ch’ in sa vida no tenzas dolore.
Difèndeti sa vida cun onore
Ninna nanna pitzinnu, ohi ninna nanna.

Anthony-Stephen Lullaby

Lullaby, my child, oh go to sleep,
I’m holding you on my lap and singing in rhyme,1
sleep, my child, sleep safely
because I’ve kept the dog tied outside the door.

If you have bad dreams in your sleep
never be afraid nor cry,
when you’ll wake up, may your mom be the one who wakes you,
telling you the stories of grandpa and grandma.

I’ll buy you a little horse
with a fine saddle and gold harness;
if you’ll pass by Gallura and Logudoro2
everyone must envy you.

I’ll put on your shoulder a rope and a rifle
and will raise for you two hunting dogs;
two dogs from Fonni,3 breed dogs
to be a defence to your sheepfold.

And then I’ll give you one hundred sheep
and a ground all flowery,
and a suit made of cloth,
a suit made of coloured cloth
and will accompany you to Gennargentu…4

And then I’ll give you a great luck
so as you won’t suffer any pain in your life.
Defend your life with honour
Lullaby, my child, oh go to sleep.
