Place de la République*

We knew each other at a time when we tried to please
each other's demands, but we got carried away.
You are only a few kilometers away
and our hearts, our hearts have stayed in this sea.
I ran alongside the Seine (a famous river in Paris)
In hopes of rediscovering the serene soul
I ran without knowing how
nor why we raced forward so quickly**

And I no longer know if you are worth the pain
It's too soon to tell.
and when you arrive tonight at Pearson (Toronto airport)
Don't forget me.
I will wait for you at least long enough to say
that I had wanted to take the biggest risk.
A night that made me very sad
a night, at Place de la République

And as you can see, this is the end
I must cross the ocean tomorrow morning
from your arms, I will gently free myself
and reality will be there waiting for me.
I understand that your heart is inhabited
by one or another girls who have marked you
Me, I'm not as strong as the others
But I hope you will miss me just as much
And I will stand out just as much

And I no longer know if you are worth the pain
It's too soon to tell.
and when you arrive tonight at Pearson (Toronto airport)
Don't forget me.
I will wait for you at least long enough to say
that I had wanted to take the biggest risk.
A night that made me very sad
a night, at Place de la République

*Note: I did not translate the title because it is a proper noun. Place de la République is a square in the center of Paris. The name means, "Republic Square."

**Note: the french word "emballe" here has a double-meaning. The literal meaning in this case is to speed ahead. However, emballe can also mean to be thrilled/excited/electrified, to get carried away, or to lose control. (Source:http://www.wordreference.com/fren/emballer)

In the translation to the left, where it says Vincennes, it should say Pearson.

I just registered on this site to tell you I think this translation is better than the other one that's on here. I wish more translators explained words in footnotes like you do. I hope you do more translations.

I would translate "en espérant te retrouver" as "in hopes of finding you again" or "in hopes of rediscovering you", because there's a "te" before "retrouver", which means "retrouver" is directed at "you". It's reflexive. Maybe that line should be: "in hopes of finding you again, my serene soul".

It looks like you forgot to translate "on s'est connu qu'un moment". I would translate that as, "we knew each other just a short while".

I want to give this 4.5 stars but only whole numbers are allowed. I will give it 5, because it's better than the other one.
