¿En perseguirme, mundo, qué interesas?

¿En perseguirme, mundo, qué interesas?
¿En qué te ofendo, cuando sólo intento
poner bellezas en mi entendimiento
y no mi entendimiento en las bellezas?
Yo no estimo tesoros ni riquezas,
y así, siempre me causa más contento
poner riquezas en mi pensamiento
que no mi pensamiento en las riquezas.
Yo no estimo hermosura que vencida
es despojo civil de las edades
ni riqueza me agrada fementida,
teniendo por mejor en mis verdades
consumir vanidades de la vida
que consumir la vida en vanidades.

By chasing me, world, what's your intent?

By persecuting me, world, what's your intent?
How do I offend you, when I'm only trying
to put beauty into my understanding
instead of putting my understanding in the beauty?
I don't long for treasures nor riches,
and so, I always find a greater pleasure
by putting riches into my thoughts
instead of focusing my thoughts on the riches.
So I don't think highly of the beauty that, when is over,
is nothing but a waste from the ages,
nor do I love false riches,
for I deem it best, as one of my truths,
to consume the vanities of this life,
than to consume my life through vanities.

Author's comments:

I found some versions that changed a lot of the original poem, but I tried to keep it as close as the original.
