Glafira

I ask: "Come to me, Glafira, -
I languished a lot alone.
Bring a piece of cheese with you,
We'll eat it up as we go along."

I'm looking forward to our meeting
At the door on high alert.
Please, come to me in the evening -
We will sit and drink some tea.

[Refrain:]
It's better to be full than hungry,
To live in peace, not in malice.
It's better to be needed than free, -
I know it by my experience,
I know it by my experience!

I ask: "Come to me, Glafira, -
By accident, randomly.
Bring a piece of cheese with you,
After all, what is tea without cheese?"

You, bring sausage, just two pieces,
And I'll find some butter here.
In our time, no one can make it alone
Keep that in mind.

[Refrain]

I will wait and not get tired,
And if you would come to me,
Then I'll be in your debt
For the rest of my life.

Just give me your best look,
Stay with me a little while -
I don't need anything else,
Only something else for tea...

Bring a piece of cheese with yourself, > "Bring a piece of cheese with you"
We will eat up it along." > "We'll eat it up as we go along."
I'll wait for desired meeting > "I'm looking forward to our meeting."
At the door on the alert. > "At the door on high alert"
Bring a piece of cheese with yourself, > "Bring a piece of cheese with you."
See, what kind of tea sans cheese?" > "After all, what is tea without cheese?"
You'll bring sausage, just two pieces, > "You, bring sausage, just two pieces."
In alone in our severe time > In our time, no one can make it alone
Don't to live - keep it in mind. > Keep that in mind.
Then I will become your debtor > then I'll be in your debt
For the rest of all my life. > for the rest of my life.
Just give me your favorable look, > Just give me your best look
Stay a little next to me > Stay with me a little while
Do not need anything else > I don't need anything else.

Thanks, Phil !
I would like to keep the number of syllables in translation. Could you leave in the list only that which greatly offends the ear of the speaker in English?

Ahahaha. Syllable counters beware, Phil & Iggy are out on the hunt for failed grammar. (i just got mine portion of c&c, so it's not about you, Evgeniy)
PS. i would recommend to count sausage by slices.

42, I rarely criticize English grammar (unless it’s obvious like ‘you was’), it is not my expertise. I only go after the meaning and interpretation. If counting syllables interfere with meaning, I might sit, as PZ putting it... on my vroom-broom Regular smile

Женя, Фил указал проблемы в переводе. Ну, например:
Bring a piece of cheese with yourself —> принеси кусочек сыра с самой/самими собой??? — ну явно self тут не по делу Wink smile
We will eat up it along —> we will it together

Regular smile

Я только за выметание безграмотности из переводческих рядов Regular smile
Т.е. все, что написал Фил подлежит безжалостному выметанию?

IgeethecatIgeethecat    Wed, 15/05/2019 - 05:48

Не выметанию, просто слегка пыль сдуть и отполировать Regular smile

В смысле обучения я люблю подзатыльники получать Regular smile
PS. В тексте ведь "кусочки"

So you mean "Chunks"? Regular smile
Characters eat sausage by chunks? I believe everyone eats by slices, but calling them "кусочки" in Russian, and maybe "колечки".
Nevermind, i'm just joking.

IgeethecatIgeethecat    Wed, 15/05/2019 - 05:35

Slicing is the prettiest way to serve salami (stay away from sausage, btw, it’s more like [home made] сосиска)
You can also chop, dice, cube, and do other unpleasant things to it Whatchutalkingabout smile

I wasn't correcting the translation. Just the grammar and things that sounded weird.
Nothing is "offensive". As for "greatly" out of the ordinary....

Bring a piece of cheese with yourself, > "Bring a piece of cheese with you"
We will eat up it along." > "We'll eat it together" (per Iggy's correction)
I'll wait for desired meeting > "I'm looking forward to our meeting."

Bring a piece of cheese with yourself, > "Bring a piece of cheese with you."
See, what kind of tea sans cheese?" > "After all, what is tea without cheese?"

Thanks, Phil. I have already fixed everything after your first post.
